When we judge governments by corporate metrics, we miss their true purpose: providing essential services, protecting rights, and investing in our collective future. Even when it's not immediately profitable.

The measure of good governance isn't ROI - it's the well-being of citizens, the strength of institutions, and the resilience of society. These are impacts that can't be captured in a quarterly earnings report.

The purpose of government is not to turn a profit for shareholders but to deliver impact to its stakeholders. Governments build highways for billions of dollars and while those highways will never turn a profit, they facilitate commerce, which in turn brings economic growth to society.

A lot of people believe that the "government should be run like a business." But that approach misunderstands the purpose of government, which is to serve ALL citizens. Not just those who can pay.
