Yeah, most people don't realise that some 'trees' - including olives - are actually bushes pruned to a tree shape

Thank you! I understand now :) I lived for some years on an olive farm that had been burnt. It was colonised by gorse (aulaga) but inside the gorse the olive stumps re-sprouted. As we gradually cleared the gorse, we were treated to hundreds of lavender and rosemary bushes. Amazing regeneration!
