Lots of this comes from media but at root, it’s a bitter resentment of people they have seen in their own lives, to whom they feel massively superior: relatives with chaotic lives, disrespectful children, lazy coworkers with vexatious complaints, and so on. These are the core experiences.

Their entire mode of politics is based on petty resentments and a belief that everyone except them is a massive bastard on the make. Briefly, it’s a kind of daily, fiery terror that somewhere, some undeserving person might be eating a free sandwich they themselves won’t get a bite of.
