Superb Vismig at Hällögern, Västerbotten this morning. 3,027 Chaffinch/Brambling a new high count at the site. 463 Waxwing also tallied, moving purposefully south west.

Great Grey Shrike at Hällögern, Västerbotten just now. Moving south along the coast, very vocal. To distant to sound record alas! Lovely bird and welcome addition to the trip list.

Drop Rig components and set up. Recorder out on southeast coast of island, facing the Baltic Sea for next 18 hours. Whooper Swan, White-tailed Eagle and Godeneye here last night at dusk and vocal.

Woddpecker Bonanza at Hällögern. 2 Grey headed Pecker, 1 Lesser Spotted Pecker, 2 Greater Spotted Woodpecker, 3 Three-toed Woodpecker and a Black Woodpecker!

Finally got eyes on the resident Eurasian Pygmy Owl at dusk this evening here at Hällögern, Västerbotten. What a pearl.

Great White Egret this morning at Hällögern! Species 163 for the island and a proper rarity this far north.

Two recording rigs out for Owls in the woods at Hällögern, a little drop tog with Lom mikro Usi’s and the Sennheiser Array. Looks like its a peak year for Tengmalm’s Owl here, with a lot of activity last night.

Mind boggling night of NocMig at Landsort Sweden on 22nd April 2025. 31 Species recorded and site records recorded for several of them. Mammoth seven hour session at the desktop now finished and an incredible 14,563 birds tallied.

Another incredible night of nocturnal migration at Landsort, Sweden took place on 21st April 2025, with some quite remarkable totals!

Landsort, Sweden. New record Spring NocMig count record recorded for European Robin, a massive night of passage in light northerly winds. Light rain through the night probably helped detect many of these birds.

August has arrived and I have been busy setting up my listening station in Vasterbotten, Sweden. Nocturnal migration and early morning along the coastline covered and this year I am also putting a device out in this woodland clearing, in Oder to maximize coverage this Autumn.

Drop Rig utilizing natural cover, put out for passage Wood Sandpiper and Green Sandpiper for the next 18 hours. Simple and extremely effective.

Acoustic Wildlife SM Mini deployed in coastal Alder cover in Västerbotten, Northern Sweden. The device will record from two hours before sunrise and five afterwards each day until the end of September in the hope of migrant passerines calling. Wrapped in camo gauze for extra concealment.
