Happy to see my alma mater have a great men's basketball season and so earn their way into the Big Dance for the first time. Long ago I played for this team in its beginning years. What a joy to be a tiny part of this history. Way to go, Cougars!! www.theintelligencer.com/sports/artic...

Ready for the annual International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts soon in Orlando. A great mix of academics and writers/editors/publishers in the fantastic here. I'm sort of all of those. Here's me, on your left, with great pal and the very famous author, Stephen R. Donaldson.

Just for fun. In 1954 my father was a back-up catcher and pinch-hitter for the Boston Red Sox. One day he hired the top Boston sports photographer of the day to come out and take pictures of him and his (then) two sons) at Fenway, pretending to play the game. Mel stepping on the bag. Safe at first.

Happy to see my short story, "Jilly in Right: A Thought Experiment," in the Jan/Feb 2025 issue of Asimov's Science Fiction magazine. It's an alternate history/multiverse story that has some baseball in it, as my stories often do.

My first post. Of course I'll start with our cat and our dog. Because. I plan to talk about writing, politics, and some sports. New short story coming out in a couple of weeks in Asimov's. New novel just sent to the agent. And my Rays seem to be leaving town in a year or two. Sad about that.
