If you are from Denmark, that explains a lot. I'm not a nuclear evangelist, but I'm not scared of it either. Denmark itself has imported crude oil for domestic consumption from Russia in the past. US energy needs are a lot more complex and voluminous than Denmark.

Thanks for the article. Isn't most of the actual building contamination rad water that seeped into the building's concrete? I'd imagine a small bit of fuel fused to the reactor vessel's lower dome. I'll look for more public DOE or NRC data sometime.

Natural gas is the other energy source you're talking about. Base load isn't largely outdated at all because the US hasn't built *storage* for solar/wind-generated renewable power. There isn't much geothermal in the US. The US grid isn't highly flexible which means base load still applies.

Yes, true. I hate all of the negative aspects myself. But they seem to be shoveling Moon Race + Manhattan Project + Marshall Plan levels of money at it, it's a geopolitical race atp & that's going to require a lot of power. All our ⚡ are gonna be sky-high unless they build something en masse.

The cleanup of TMI-2 ended in 1993. You're talking about the full decommissioning and dismantling of the entire plant, which was slated for ~2060s if TMI-1 remains shut down.

AI & the US need nuclear bc it provides base load at scale and capacity that no other power source can. Govt backing is appropriate in the NPP case, because so many projects have failed due to cost overruns. The cost issues leading to TMI-1 closing & blocking NPP are mainly post-fracking cheap NG.

I understand. It seems to me that a lot of people are talking past each other online because they don't understand the differences between HCOL/LCOL cities, tier 1/2/3, and NE/Southern/Mid-Western/West, etc development and zoning. And they rage based on their personal preference.

I agree. I live in a city where you can move to a neighborhood with that choice. Unfortunately, my city has gotten so expensive that people not of means have to move out to the burbs (which you need to own a car bc public transpo is bad), or a less safe neighborhood (where public trans is also bad).

A lot of online YIMBYs seem to push the idea that families should be living in ever denser urban apartment or townhome communities, when a lot of people who start families w/ children still move to a SFH in the suburbs. Those YIMBYs usually align with the super vocal biker car-haters as well.

This is enraging me because my Black grandfather fought in WWII and he suffered so much PTSD that he never talked about until he was on his death bed dying of cancer and he said he wished he was back with the Nazis bc he was in so much pain.

I definitely don't know the full story. I think a large part of it wasn't SNAP. It was the Fed Govt workers (for Kaine), and for others I'm sure the big 3 airlines were calling around bc of the clusterfuck US aviation is right now bc of ATC issues.
