I edit Wikipedia for fun.

Give it a try: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Introduction

Then I join in. 😭

The CEO is not involved in the technical development of MediaWiki. CEO is an organizational role.

Usually if someone tries to verify a fact with the source and fails, they remove it. But sometimes if it's likely there's a source to confirm it somewhere, then they'll leave this tag instead so there's time to find a new source.

And edit too! We need editors to improve the articles even more than the WikiMedia Foundation needs money to host them.

You can create an account to make the banners go away.

You'd be surprised how many people try creating articles with LLM, but there are a lot of very smart people dedicating hours of their time to catch it.

Double down and start editing the articles.

Adding partisan content to Wikipedia only makes more work for the rest of us. It stands out very clearly to experienced editors and someone will have to spend time fixing it. 😭

And Wikipedia has become more reliable as the requirements for sourcing have gotten stricter.

You can hide the banners by creating an account. And you can provide them feedback at donate@wikimedia.org telling them how annoying the banners are. Us editors don't like them either.

You can provide a more current photo if you like. Anyone can take a photograph, even of themselves, and upload it for use on an article. All you have to do is confirm that you're the photographer and declare that you're licensing it under CC BY-SA.

May God give you strength on this perilous journey.

We're working on it! The ratio is steadily evening out, and we have a whole project specifically about fixing this. What we need is more people to start editing so they can work on these articles.

At this point most school IPs are banned.

Most are still in the dark ages about Wikipedia not being a reliable source for papers. Even though primary citations are available anyways in all the articles. The funny thing is it's more reliable than the AI slop that will default from kids Google searches now.

It was just created in the last few weeks! There's a surprising amount of overlap between the Toki Pona community and Wikipedia editors.

I know the people who wrote this, there are a lot of fun articles they've worked on. You can also thank them for the articles "Pronunciation of GIF" and "Mike Tyson's tattoos".

It seems like you're already skeptical, but since this is a constant problem I can confirm that any "Wikipedia editor" asking for money is a scammer.

Or even better, use it INSTEAD of AI results!

Come edit too if you like! It's just as helpful. 😄

Has your decision not to run or your endorsement of Councilmember George been published officially anywhere, in the media or in a release? That could be used to update the page.

A post like this would sometimes work, but your account would have to be confirmed as yours (to avoid hoaxes).

You would not believe the shockwave this genuinely sent through the editor community. BFDI was one of our biggest inside jokes.

We are always watching. 👀

Especially when I want to talk about Wikipedia so I search recent mentions of it. 😛

Editors have negotiated some changes in the last few years. For one, the banners don't act like Wikipedia is on the verge of death any more.

Editor strikes are always possible, but it would really take something massive, more than intrusive banners.
