I connected like 8 dots in my head to get from this post to this point but: a failure to sign one single free-agent will probably never be catastrophic, but I think the Mets coming close and missing on Yamamoto is just about as franchise-altering as missing out on a FA can be, I think.

Sounds to me like he said "slider" not "sliding". He was also in a clear amount of pain after being hit there and was uncomfortable, so it makes more sense for it to be the HBP here. Would appreciate a clarification to be sure though. I don't recall him having an awkward slide in that game?
