That's a good place to start. I think I read about it somewhere but it was pretty easy on that model. There's a pic of my unit in my reply to the OP.

You can easily replace the battery of iPods and you won't lose any music. I have replaced the battery in my 2002 Gen 2 iPod twice. I'm not an electronics tech or anything... just handy with fixing stuff.
