And huge thanks to all mentors and mentees who joined the Speed Mentoring!

It was a safe, trustworthy space for connection around navigating the research path, and we all highlighted the value of different perspectives and intergenerational exchange.

Cheers to all the openness and generosity!

We discussed about creating inclusive and safe academic spaces across the 25 years of WiCS+ and the work still ahead.

Judy Kroll and @nurasidarus.bsky.social revisited our origins and evolution, and together with @martarivz.bsky.social reflected on structural challenges and collective action

To avoid ambiguity:
1 Clearly define the multiple forms of GBV ensuring everyone understands what behaviors are unacceptable
2 Define how/to whom these can be reported
3 Implement dedicated training on how to handle reports and the range of ways this can be addressed, to prevent the escalation

Hence, GBV remains entrenched in the system and academic culture, representing an institutional betrayal. When institutions fail to address and prevent GBV, they perpetuate a harmful environment, undermining trust and safety for all members.

📊62% experienced GBV – it can affect everyone, but some genders are more likely to be affected (as well as individuals with other minoritised identities, e.g. LGBT+, disability, ethnicity).

🎯Who is disproportionately affected needs to be considered in policy making.

@alicialuque.bsky.social (@nebrija.bsky.social). Her research bridges applied linguistics, cognitive neuroscience, and social psychology to explore how individual factors shape language learning trajectories and outcomes, particularly in migration contexts.
