This was my first console too. What I like about this release, besides the wireless controllers, is that it will natively load roms off of a usb thumb drive.

GOG sounds the most like this. You do the purchase and can download an offline installer to use anywhere.

If you’re concerned about being litigated against for ripping your own disc, then you must lead a very complicated life

I’ve got hundreds of discs, some ranging back to 93. The only disc failures I’ve seen were from when originally pressed. Never seen disc rot in person. If one was really concerned they could rip disc to ISO. Lots of ways to manage the items that you purchase.

Woot’s been around since early 2000s, then Amazon bought them in 2010.
