The War Between: Who Are Homo Aqua?
The War Between: Who Are Homo Aqua?
The War Between the Land and the Sea introduces the world to a new generation of Homo Aqua. But these ‘Sea Devils’ have a long history in the worlds of Doctor Who The War Between the Land and the Sea begins this Sunday, as humanity is confronted by its ancient predecessors Homo Aqua. But the five episode spin-off is far from the creatures first appearance in the Whoniverse.Their first appearance was in 1972’s The Sea Devils, itself back on television this Sunday in a special edition for BBC Four. But they’ve had several clashes with the Doctor since then. The Sea Devils was a sequel to The Silurians, adding aquatic cousins to the concept in the first of many variant species That first story was itself a sequel to Doctor Who and the Silurians, two years earlier. That adventure introduced the eponymous Silurians – sentient reptiles who’d inhabited the Earth millions of years before the human race. The ‘Sea Devils’ as terrified local fisherman dubbed them, were the Silurians aquatic cousins. Like the Silurians, they’d gone into hibernation to avoid a planetary disaster millions of years ago, but overslept. Awakening in the present day, they were horrified to discover that the primitive mammals they left behind had evolved into an entire civilization: us. The Doctor attempts to negotiate a peace between the two species, but the Master deliberately tries to start a war between the land and the sea. Ultimately, the Earth is saved for humanity, and the Sea Devil underwater base destroyed. You’ll be able to see The Sea Devils for yourself on BBC Four on Sunday the 7th. Starting at 7pm a new 90 minute special edition of the story is the perfect introduction to The War Between the Land and the Sea, starting on BBC One straight afterwards. Their second television story revealed their conflict with humanity would extend into the future, and only grow more desperate The creatures return for Warriors of the Deep, this time facing the Fifth Doctor and his friends. They form part of a joint Silurian/Sea Devil attack on an underwater nuclear missile base in the late 21st century. Their new plan is to launch a strike which will force the start of World War Three and end human civilization – leaving the planet theirs once more. Sadly, this time out the aquatic warriors are little more than muscle, with the Silurians definitely in charge. The story does, however, introduce their pet, the Myrka – one of those Doctor Who monsters you really have to see to believe. Half dinosaur, and half pantomime horse, it’s a hilariously lethal killer. Warriors of the Deep also introduces the slightly odd idea, never mentioned before or since, that the aquatic reptiles are total pacifists. Despite brandishing their distinctive dish like guns, and killing an awful lot of people during the story, supposedly their code of honour means they can only trick humanity into destroying itself rather than wipe them out directly. The Legend of the Sea Devils was surprisingly loyal to the original look, but jettisoned almost all the traditional social commentary for swashbuckling adventure The Sea Devils wouldn’t get an onscreen appearance again until the tail end of the Thirteenth Doctor era and The Legend of the Sea Devils. The 2022 special is remarkably faithful to the creatures’ original look, especially compared to the changes made in the 2010 redesign of the Silurians. However, the fact that early drafts featured a completely different underwater civilization is very clear in the final version. Rather than relatively nuanced, by Doctor Who standards, thoughts about conflicting territorial claims, they’re fairly basic baddies here. Their leader Marsissus (Craige Els) is out to conquer the Earth in the 19th century and wipe out the surface world, starting with China. There’s really nothing sympathetic or ambiguous about him. His clan also use technology bordering on magic, well beyond anything we’ve seen previously, and have a leviathan style beast at their command called the Hua-Shen. Tom Baker and Christopher Eccleston have also attempted to find peace between humans and Sea Devils in audio adventures Despite having had only three previous television appearances over the course of five decades, the Sea Devils are still one of Doctor Who’s most iconic foes. Clips of them have regularly shown up whenever a montage called for a collection of classic monsters – such as in Frontier in Space, The Eleventh Hour, or The Timeless Children. And they showed up as part of the crowd in 30th Anniversary minisode Dimension in Time too. Their battle to reclaim the Earth has also spilled over into audio plays and novels several times. In Storm of the Sea Devils, an unscruplous millionaire holds one of their number hostage in his mansion in the swamps near Calcutta. But he’s risking a reprisal he can’t possibly be prepared for, unless the Fourth Doctor, Harry, and Naomi can defuse the situation. Meanwhile, Christopher Eccleston stars in The Seas of Titan. It takes their story into the distant future, where the Sea Devils have fled Earth to establish a hiding place on Saturn’s moon. But when a human colony discovers their presence, there’s nowhere else to run. Once more the Doctor tries desperately to curb the militants on both sides. But can he finally succeed? A download of The Seas of Titan is even included in this month’s Doctor Who Magazine too! Kate Lethbridge Stewart’s UNIT team have already battled the Sea Devils once before – in Big Finish’s Tidal Wave Perhaps most significantly ahead of The War Between the Land and the Sea, Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) and Osgood (Ingrid Oliver) encounter them in Tidal Wave. As with the new Whoniverse television show, the battle is at a grand, global scale, as the Silurians and Sea Devils seek to topple the entire human world. The Sea Devils of Tidal Wave play a key role in that scheme, but the Doctor’s old companion Jo is able to convince them to call off their attack and wait for calmer heads to prevail. That story even prefigures The War Between by establishing a new name for the species: the arguably more appropriate Reptilia Sapiens. Though it will be interesting to see if The War Between acknowledges, even vaguely, that Kate has dealt with them before. The War Between the Land and the Sea promises to be the most epic, ambitious Sea Devil story yet The War Between the Land and the Sea begins in earnest this weekend, and revives the core themes of the essential Silurian and Sea Devil stories. Both humanity and our predecessors are complicated civilizations, with hawks and doves on the two sides. Even with a world theoretically more than big enough to share, paranoia and territorial instincts threaten to make it impossible. And peacemakers must, ironically, fight to preserve any chance of a future for the Earth. There’s also an added ecological message this time. After all, resurrecting after aeons to discover not only a new dominant species on land is bad enough. To witness the devastating impact on your ocean home is even worse. No wonder Homo Aqua is ready for war. Beyond that, the series adds two new variants of Homo Aqua to the Doctor Who universe. One shares the turtle like look of the original, but with a shorter neck, more ripped muscles, extended lateral muscles to aid in swimming, and smaller, blacker eyes. The other, represented by Salt (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) and Tide (Samuel Oatley) have almost human features. The War Between also follows the lead of the 21st century Silurian stories by depicting them as having technology centuries ahead of present day humans, if not further. Whatever twists and turns the coming war may bring, it’s going to provide our best look yet, at this fascinating Doctor Who species. It’s one that’s likely to define them for decades to come. The War Between the Land and the Sea begins with Homo Aqua at 8.30pm on iPlayer and BBC One on the 7th of December Like this: Like Loading...

Truth or dare on the Powell Estate
Truth or dare on the Powell Estate
Can Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper stop a malevolent entity from bringing out the worst in people? The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Dare You is released today. Have you ever had a voice in your head urging you to do something you really shouldn’t? That’s the situation faced by many residents of the Powell Estate, not least Jackie Tyler (Camille Coduri), who gets herself into trouble at the supermarket. Enter the Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) and Rose (Billie Piper), who set out to investigate the outbreak of intrusive thoughts. They discover a sinister force behind it all, but what conflict can this creature stir up between Rose and Jackie, and what happens when it sets its sights on a Time Lord? Dare You, written by Lisa McMullin, is the third of twelve brand-new full-cast audio adventures starring the time-travelling team from the 2005 series of Doctor Who. Its cast also includes Beverley Klein as Polly Pemberton, Jack Ayres as Davey, Harry Myers as Baz and the Hellion, and Dan Starkey as Derek. Doctor Who – The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Dare You is now available to purchase for just £9.99 (download to own) or £11.99 (download to own + collector’s edition CD), exclusively here. Please note: the collector’s edition CD is strictly limited to 1,500 copies and will not be re-pressed. Something or someone is playing truth or dare with the people on the Powell Estate. And it’s dangerous to play games with a Time Lord. Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words can REALLY hurt you. Christopher Eccleston said: “I don’t think it’s any secret that Lisa McMullin is my favourite writer! We have so many brilliant writers at Big Finish, but the way Lisa can ground it, and then her poetic ability to inhabit the aliens, is so exciting – it’s almost like playing knockabout comedy and then having to do grandstanding Shakespeare. So atmospheric and then funny. There’s great cheek and great scale to what Lisa can do. It was such a joy recording this one.” Billie Piper added: “One of the reasons I really liked this episode is because it has a very clever take on compulsions and intrusive thoughts. It seems to be pulling apart and undressing mental health issues in a sci-fi way, which I really, really appreciate, and I think a lot of people connect to.” Camille Coduri agreed: “Yes, it really does kick into the home truths, doesn’t it, Dare You? Which I loved because Jackie does say what she feels a lot of the time anyway, and now she’s getting her karma back! I loved it when I read it, and I thought, well, this is so creepy.” Praise for the previous Ninth Doctor Adventures release, The Last Days of the Powell Estate: “A joy to hear Eccleston and Piper (and Coduri) back together after so long.” Who Review “A modern folk horror with a terrifying Moffat-worthy monster concept … 5/5” CultBox “Doctor Who at its creepiest.” Doctor Who Magazine Dare You is the third of twelve new audio adventures for the Ninth Doctor and Rose. A complete series multibuy bundle of all twelve releases is also available to pre-order at the specially discounted price of £102 (download to own), exclusively from the Big Finish website. Additional three-release multibuy bundles are available from just £27 (download to own) and £33 (download to own + collector’s edition CD). All the above prices (including pre-order and multibuy bundle discounts) are fixed for a limited time only and guaranteed no later than 28 February 2025. Please note that Big Finish is currently operating a digital-first release schedule. The mail-out of collector’s edition CDs may be delayed due to factors beyond our control, but all purchases of this release unlock a digital copy that can be immediately downloaded or played on the Big Finish app from the release date.

Out Now: The Doctor Who Appreciation Society’s Celestial Toyroom Annual 2026
Out Now: The Doctor Who Appreciation Society’s Celestial Toyroom Annual 2026
The Doctor Who Appreciation Society has released its tenth Celestial Toyroom Annual. Previous editions looked at a specific Doctor’s era, and so the 2026 Annual celebrates the Fifth Doctor, played by Peter Davison. The annual includes story critiques, features, an interview, and fiction, with contributions from Andrew Skilleter, Colin Howard, Andy Lambert, Paul Scoones, Doctor Who Monthly, and more. There’s also an addendum to the main Annual: three stories featuring the Fifth Doctor for download only. The Celestial Toyroom Annual 2026 is a full-colour, A4, 178-page print-on-demand publication, available through Lulu as both a hardback and paperback. The printing of orders that Lulu receives are carried out locally to where the order is made from and are then despatched from that printer. Or you can simply get the free downloadable PDF! To term it an “Annual” undersells this – it’s actually a hefty 175-page book! And having just received my hardback and paperback copies of this edition, I wanted to put my full support and praise for this launch by DWAS, as not only are their Annuals always a benchmark for quality publications and top drawer content, but this 2026 edition sees them return to actual physical publishing for the first time in a few years… Previous physical copies of the Annual have been very expensive, small hardback format. For 2026, though, the Society has partnered with Lulu for print-on-demand, and the format and the reproduction quality of the finished product rivals anything that Telos Publishing or Candy Jar Publishing has released! I had no idea Lulu could publish to that high a standard, but this edition of Celestial Toyroom is printed on glossy paper, with pin-sharp full-colour image reproduction, and in a hardback or softback format that surely will redefine where small-press and fan publishing is headed in the years ahead. Astonishingly, the hardback edition is just £17.05, which, for a book of this size, format, and quality, is an absolute gold-plated bargain today. The softback edition is every bit as good a quality as the hardback, however, and is priced just £10.42 — for an A4-sized 175-page image-heavy book, you simply won’t find anything close to being this cheap and fan-friendly! I don’t know how they are doing it. But I commend them fully for it. A gift to Doctor Who fandom for Christmas, from the Doctor Who Appreciation Society. The Celestial Toyroom Annual 2026 is edited by Bruce Nicholson and designed by Paul MC Smith of wonderfulbooks.co.uk, with front cover artwork by Carolyn Edwards. [Note from editor: And don’t forget that the DWC will be giving away a free annual to download this Christmas too, as we have done for numerous years now.] Like this: Like Loading...

Russell Tovey: ‘Doctor Who changed my life 20 years ago – now I’m back’
Russell Tovey: ‘Doctor Who changed my life 20 years ago – now I’m back’
Russell Tovey is back in the Whoniverse after starring in Doctor Who almost 20 years ago (Picture: BBC) Key Points summary__ai-icon Russell Tovey stars as Barclay, an ordinary man thrust into extraordinary circumstances in the new Doctor Who spin-off. The series, The War Between the Land and the Sea, explores themes of environmentalism and human connection, delivering hope and adventure. Tovey reflects on how Doctor Who shaped his career and shares insights into the show’s engaging and heartfelt storytelling. Created with AI assistance. Quality assured by Metro editors. Who would be the unlikeliest person in the Whoniverse to save the Earth and humankind from an alien threat if The Doctor and his Tardis companions were unavailable? Meet Barclay, the regular Joe who books the taxis for the bigwigs at fictional military science organisation UNIT. Played by Years and Years, Juice and Being Human actor Russell Tovey, he is the latest every person from the imagination of writer showrunner Russell T Davies, with the power to achieve extraordinary things if only he knew it. ‘Barclay is just the most brilliant, flawed, emotional, scared but heroic character ever,’ says Russell Tovey. ‘He’s somebody who runs the Uber account at UNIT. That’s as much responsibility as he has in his job. He turns up, he takes his pay packet, goes down the gym, meets his mates, goes to the pub, tries to be a great dad to his teenage child, and he’s a divorcee. He’s a nice guy, but he’s just drifting.’ That all changes when a Human Resources admin error plucks Barclay from his humdrum life, plonks him on a remote island in Scotland and brings him face to face with The Sea Devils, one of Doctor Who’s classic foes from the early 1970s Jon Pertwee era, a marine race who ruled the earth before humanity. Get personalised updates on Doctor Who Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro’s TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we’ll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. ‘Barclay is picked out from among billions of people to be given this huge responsibility, and as terrifying as it is, he realises that suddenly he has got purpose,’ says Russell, 44, who first joined the franchise in the 2007 Doctor Who Christmas Special as a midshipman on a starship replica of the Titanic with Kylie Minogue. ‘People are seeing things in Barclay that he has never recognised in himself his whole life, and that propels him forwards. That activates a sense of purpose in him. The most wonderful thing you can have in life is a purpose.’ Russell first joined the franchise in 2007, where he played midshipman Frame (Picture: BBC Studios/Bad Wolf/Alistair Heap) To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Up Next Previous Page Next Page If Barclay’s fate is the result of a happy accident, then Tovey also enjoyed his own sliding doors moment thanks to his first Doctor Who casting. ‘Julie Gardner, one of the show’s executive producers [and co-founders of Bad Wolf], was also producing a pilot called Being Human about a ghost, a vampire and a werewolf who all live in a house together. I got cast as George the werewolf. That show changed my life. If I hadn’t done Voyage of the Damned, Julie Gardner might not have considered me, and where would I be now?’ He might possibly have been working in transport like Barclay. Russell’s mum and dad ran their own coach service in Essex, ferrying passengers from Romford to Gatwick airport. Although the only time that Russell put a shift in for them, it doesn’t sound like he gave it his best shot. Being Human was Russell’s breakout hit (Picture: BBC/Todd Antony/Touchpaper/RDF) Russell would also work on Years and Years (Picture: BBC/Red Productions/Guy Farrow) ‘I worked on a Saturday, I turned up late, I sat in the kitchen and made myself a cup of tea, and then I think I left after lunchtime,’ says Russell. ‘That was it. I think at one point they wanted me to do a course in driving coaches, and I said no because I knew what would happen. I would get a call in the middle of the night saying a bus has broken down on the M25, you’ve got to get there and take the passengers to Stansted airport. That sounded to me like hell on earth. Obviously, I’m so proud of what my parents achieved and how hard they worked when I was a kid, but I was meant for the stage, not being behind a wheel.’ In terms of themes and emotional impact, The War Between is closer to another Russell T Davies drama, Years and Years, than it is to regular Doctor Who. The It’s a Sin writer’s dystopian vision of Britain from 2019 to 2034, with the country rocked by political upheavals and economic instability, cast Tovey as Daniel Lyons, a family member and housing officer whose life with his Ukrainian refugee partner Viktor played out devastatingly. The concerns of The War Between are again what we are doing to our planet and to each other. ‘I think it’s art’s responsibility to show what’s happening in the world and who we are,’ says Tovey. ‘If you see it through a character’s eyes and can put yourself in their shoes, suddenly you understand what is going on. Look at shows like Adolescence and how that changed everything for so many. And Mr Bates vs The Post Office. I was lucky enough to be a part of Suspect, which held people accountable for the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes. This show is hopefully going to make people sit up and go, “Wow, I can do something, and we need to do more.” It’s a show that gives people hope.’ The Homo Aqua (or Sea Devils) leader Salt (Picture: BBC Studios/Bad Wolf/Samuel Dore) Russell Tovey on Russell T Davies The two Russells have worked together on Doctor Who, Years and Years and now The War Between. ‘I admire Russell’s bravery when it comes to storytelling and the way he speaks about the world. He doesn’t shy away from the dark realities of what we are all living through. His Bafta Cymru speech was so stirring. He is such an important voice. ‘He has been a real constant for me, being a young gay man trying to work out who I was, seeing queer dramas like Queer as Folk. Looking for similarities, not differences, making it exciting and creating a safe space for me to see myself. ‘His ear for dialogue is next level, but if you read his scripts, just the way he does scene directions, there is no one else like him. It’s like a comic strip. He puts sound effects in. He has so much energy. ‘I’m in awe of his ability to watch and read everything in the news, read every single book under the sun, watch every single TV show, he is aware of everybody from the oldest person to the youngest and what they are doing. ‘What he does when he is part of a company is that he will text you after every day’s shoot, when he has watched the rushes, and he will do that with every single cast member and every single head of department. He will never copy and paste. They are all unique, individual texts. Every single person who works with him – you feel seen. It unites everyone because the boss is patting you on the back, going: “Great work, keep going.”’ If that makes it sound like The War Between is a rather earnest environmental tutorial, then it’s not. It’s a smart, funny, Russell T Davies and Pete McTighe sci-fi adventure with formidable adversaries, especially Sea Devils/Homo Aqua leader Salt, played by the charismatic Gugu Mbatha-Raw (The Morning Show, The Girl Before). ‘My friend was staying who is not the biggest sci-fi fan,’ says Russell, ‘but she was like, “Put another one on!” We watched all five in one sitting. I just thought that never happens. The last episode is incredible TV in the way that Russell T Davies can do it. You think about Years and Years and when that episode four hit. People are still haunted by that. ‘Although this show is in the Whoniverse, you can watch it without knowing anything about Doctor Who. The War Between is its own thing. It is completely accessible on so many levels. It’s a show that you can watch multi-generationally. It’s epic, it’s an adventure, but at its heart is love and the need for understanding and looking for similarities rather than differences, which as a society and planet right now we need to do when people are being othered.’ Russell admires Russell T Davies’ bravery when it comes to storytelling and the way he speaks about the world (Picture: Jeff Moore/PA Wire) ‘Barclay is just the most brilliant, flawed, emotional, scared but heroic character ever,’ says Russell (Picture: BBC Studios/Bad Wolf/Samuel Dore) It is also a show that loves television. One of its best gags is when Barclay’s Gen Z teenage kid Kirby says they are now watching terrestrial TV because what’s happening with the Sea Devils is so gripping. Did Russell have his own appointment-to-view telly recently when his fellow Him & Her actor Joe Wilkinson was on Celebrity Traitors? ‘I watched it all, and I cried my eyes out at the end with Alan [Carr],’ says Tovey. ‘What brilliant TV. Claudia Winkleman is one of the best assets we have. She is phenomenal. She is just very, very, very good at her job. I also watched the TV show What It Feels Like for A Girl, which is incredibly important and incredibly moving. Again, looking for similarities, not differences, showing us drama that humanises rather than demonises.’ And on land and sea, that battle goes on. The War Between the Land and the Sea launches with a double bill on BBC iPlayer and BBC One at 8:30pm on Sunday 7th December. Got a story? Lovarzi Adds Doctor Who Cardigan and Backpack
Lovarzi Adds Doctor Who Cardigan and Backpack
Lovarzi add an official Tom Baker Season 12 cardigan and a new backpack to their collection Official Doctor Who licence holder Lovarzi have added two new exclusive items to their wardrobe, just in time to go under the tree this month. The knitwear specialists now have the first official version of Tom Baker’s iconic argyle cardigan. Featuring a unique pattern of diamonds in three different colours, the original first appeared in the Fourth Doctor’s debut story Robot. He continued to wear it that entire season, with its final appearance in Revenge of the Cybermen Part Four. An affordable version of the Season 12 cardigan has been a holy grail of Doctor Who cosplayers for decades. Most settle for a generic brown argyle pattern, but now they have the option of a more accurate cardigan. The Lovarzi version also comes with three pockets, and the original’s distinctive sleeves in a different brown. It line with Lovarzi’s mandate to serve fans (and even, dare we say it, ‘normal people’) beyond the cosplay market, the cut of their cardigan is a middle ground between the high waist and overlong sleeves of the 1970s style original, and something a little bit more modern for everyday wear. You now have a new Whovian way to carry your laptop or schoolbooks There’s also a new Doctor Who backpack available from Lovarzi this month. Featuring a slightly more subtle design than a lot of merchandise, a pattern of TARDISes and Daleks arranged in snowflake like Xs covers black bag. The patch reading “DOC-TOR-?” is similarly low-key, though the “Police Public Call Box” one might well give the game away. The backpack comes with all the features you’d expect from this sort of item. There’s a separate laptop compartment with strap, an inner zip pocket, an outer zip pocket, and a mesh side slot for your bottle or travel cup. These latest additions are just part of Lovarzi’s growing Doctor Who collection Both the Fourth Doctor cardigan and the Doctor Who backpack can be ordered now through the Lovarzi site. They add to the brand’s already extensive collection, including scarves, the Seventh Doctor’s pullover, laptop bag and much more. Like this: Like Loading...

Jemma Redgrave Hints at Possible Death or Big Status Quo Change for Her Doctor Who Character
Jemma Redgrave Hints at Possible Death or Big Status Quo Change for Her Doctor Who Character
There’s much speculation that Kate Stewart, the daughter of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart from Doctor Who and the current head of UNIT, might die in the upcoming spin-off show, The War Between the Land and the Sea. This comes after something actress Jemma Redgrave said about playing the character in the related programme. However, it could also mean that there could be a significant status quo change for Kate which would impact Doctor Who. Jemma said: “If she survives this series, I don’t know where she can go next. But I’ve had a most extraordinary time and journey with this character and through different series of Doctor Who and now through this series. “And every time I get the call, it feels like another gift. Long may it last.” Now, I don’t think this means she’s actually going to die in the show. I do, however, think something could change for her, perhaps in a personal capacity but perhaps related to her position in UNIT. Writer Pete McTighe added to this theory, by saying: “The character of Kate Lethbridge-Stewart… I think if you’re a huge fan of Doctor Who and you know that legacy character and you love that character like I do, I think you’ll be very surprised about the journey that she goes on through the show. Her character arc, in particular for Doctor Who fans, is probably the most surprising.” That feels like a change of heart or something similar, doesn’t it? Kate was first seen in the 1990s spin-off, Downtime, but first appeared in Who proper, played by Redgrave, in 2012’s The Power of Three. It would be a great shame for such a legacy character to bite the dust in a spin-off show, especially as she’s not been very effectively utilised in Doctor Who recently, except perhaps in 73 Yards and, more so, Lucky Day. Plus, Jemma is lovely, so we’d like to see more of Kate! The War Between the Land and the Sea begins on 7th December with a double bill in the UK, and will stream on Disney+ outside the UK in early 2026. Like this: Like Loading...

BBC Audiobooks Celebrates Complete Run of Doctor Who TV Novelisations
BBC Audiobooks Celebrates Complete Run of Doctor Who TV Novelisations
BBC Audiobooks has announced the completion of the full sequence of audiobook novelisations covering every televised Doctor Who adventure from The Daleks (1964) to Rose (2005). This landmark is celebrated with the release of Doctor Who and the Loch Ness Monster, read by Jon Culshaw, an audio adaptation of Terrance Dicks’s 1976 novelisation of the beloved Fourth Doctor story Terror of the Zygons. This milestone marks the culmination of over 160 unabridged audiobook titles, representing every televised Doctor Who story between the Daleks’ debut in late 1963 through to the revival of the series in 2005. What began with Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks by David Whitaker in 1964 - later reissued as Doctor Who and the Daleks - has grown into an extraordinary legacy of storytelling. The Target Books range has ensured that each of those adventures, from the black-and-white classics to the dawn of the modern era, has been preserved and reimagined in sound. 61 narrators have contributed their voices to this audio chronicle of the Doctor’s TV adventures, including five on-screen Doctors (Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Paul McGann). This is in addition to numerous companions, allies and adversaries bringing each story to life, lending their talents to both narrative and dialogue. Their readings are accompanied by key special effects and the authentic voices of Daleks, Cybermen, and K9, courtesy of Nicholas Briggs and John Leeson.
