Thank you!

I’m sure you didn’t mean for this to reference the Pelicot rapes, but it really does.
February 6, 2025 at 5:48 AM
Yep, every time. Drag it out and add irrelevant details until the ratings fall and it’s cancelled.

I loved that movie with all my heart!

Great list! Did you mean the 2022 Hellraiser, or did you intend that to be Hellbender?

I received this in the Night Worms package, and so grateful I did. Just finished and it is mind-blowingly good.

“Wages of Fear”, the original it’s based on, is also great, and is also on Criterion. I recommend pizza, popcorn, and a perfect double bill.

These two bad boys were strays who were hit by cars. Pretty sure they've been plotting their revenge for the last 10 years. At least when they take time out from chin scritches.

Did you pick that title knowing how cool it would be in Spanish?
February 21, 2024 at 11:37 PM
Yes! On my short list of writers who should be much better known. Mind blowing stuff. Zeroville heavily cribbed from “Easy Riders, Raging Bulls”, Peter Biskind’s book on 70’s filmmakers.

If a joke is shared on social media, though, isn't it now public? Sorry for the bad vibe, but in a job with all the school and debt of human doctors, a fraction of the pay, and many paying off student debt into their 40's, hearing repeated snarks about being greedy and overpaid starts to rankle.

Then I misinterpreted your "We're in the wrong profession" comment. What did you mean by it? I saw the implication being that veterinarians are overcharging.
February 11, 2024 at 8:59 PM
Human tests cost much more, they’re just covered by insurance. Vets have just as extensive education and just as much student debt as doctors. They just get paid a lot less. I don’t know what you mean by “in the wrong profession“, unless you want longer hours and less money.

Oops, I had forgotten the even more blatant rip-off of Moore's comic "Top 10", from which came Rustin's speech in the hospital parking lot about light beating darkness. This Vulture article frames it as "homage". www.vulture.com/2014/03/true...

Short version is Jack the Ripper in "From Hell" has the same belief in transcendence through ritual torture / murder as Errol Childress in TD; the "time is a flat circle" speech from Rustin. Here's one article: comicsalliance.com/true-detecti...

Oops, sorry for cluelessness, I should have known you were aware of bayliss. But this did bring back fond memories of wielding a flamethrower for a good cause, so I'll take the hit.
January 29, 2024 at 9:45 PM
When I worked at a wildlife rescue, we used to use a flamethrower to clean the raccoon enclosure because baylisascaris, the raccoon roundworm, is so hardy, and resistant to standard cleaners. It can cause serious issues in infected kids (visceral larval migrans). I wouldn't have risked it.

I've found that whether or not someone has worked for a large corporation or the government is a major predictor of how much they will appreciate Authority.

That. was. so. fucking. good.
