Adventurous attorney. Usually adventurous. In my hermit era. Whitewater kayaker, Appalachian homeowner, continent traveler. I think about a lot of things and sometimes write about them. I do some things as well.
Purity tests.

Yes, the DNC has many issues. but it IS a two party system and we can’t win by denouncing every candidate with an actual chance of winning an election, especially if their ”crime” is ”having a chance of winning an election.”

There is no unified “left“ in the US.

A communist friend sent me a meme denouncIng no kings, demanding ”no capitalists” instead. So yeah they absolutely exist but it’s not a unified block by any stretch. Most of my left friends don’t love DNC but understand binary choices. We lose if splintered.

It’s about enough to repave one suburban neighborhood, maybe. or rebuild close to half a dozen median houses or one apartment building.

$3m is only a lot of money relative to an individual median household. it’s nothing on any neighborhood-or-greater scale.

$3m is not even enough to rebuild a dozen median houses in Montana.

It really is wild to read Washington and Hamilton’s detailed essays about Donald Trump, Russia, and Facebook.

Oh sorry, I mean about demagogues, foreign manipulators, and mobs.

But you could easily swap these nouns into Washington’s Farewell Address and the Federalist Papers seamlessly.

How does this work, mechanically? Is someone from your staff background checking all donors above a certain threshold?

Just ask an actual doctor and the factors are well known. It’s not as complex as gender or anything like that, just a combination of environmental, diet, and lifestyle factors. Lower testosterone mostly correlates with sedentary lifestyle, alcohol, and obesity.

Sometimes going out of business is actually the right move, especially when the alternative puts lives including your own at risk.

Actual successful people understand that sometimes you have to accept failure.

sure. ultimately, it’s the inherent dangers of any kind of black market, and if other risks outweigh those you choose the less bad option. but you should still be mindful of the risks even if mindfulness still means going forward with it and maybe take additional precautions.

I get it though. That's me. Very easy to feel boxed in on all sides. If I do X group A will hate me for it, if I do Not X the others will hate me, and if I try to help group A, group B will campaign against me, and then there's group C who will campaign against me harder the more I try to help C.

I guess the other thing is that crypto is very popular with scammers. The whole "the government isn't involved" thing often increases the risk of being scammed in a traditional sense, and it's easy for someone naive to get misled by a bad actor. It can be used safely, but not automatic.
September 27, 2025 at 1:38 PM
scam is too strong a word. but with crypto, there are downsides that don't get talked about enough. The privacy concept is double edged, Blockchain is itself by definition a public record of transactions, so it's pretty traceable once an ID is known. Not hard for feds to find that. And profiteering
September 27, 2025 at 1:36 PM
Scam might be too strong a word, it's more like a thing that is hugely overrated. It's not really private because the blockchain is public, once your ID is known it's all out there in the open, every transaction. Fundamental premise of crypto requires this.

Mathematically, Tyler and the ICE guy together represent a 300% increase in targeted murders by leftists since last year (Luigi*)

*it's still entirely unclear whether Luigi was an "actual leftist" or just a briefly awakening conservative, and the same is true of the other two.

You're not going to convince me that Donald Trump has ever been inside a Lowe's.

Anyway, I don't think that anyone who has actually shopped for kitchen or bathroom fixtures lately is going to agree that what that department of the store really needs is higher prices.

Meanwhile the data on the right wing line seems pretty suspect. I assume that they have redefined right wing terrorism to exclude things like the assassinations of elected leaders, which in 2025 has only been done by right-wing shooters. So these numbers don't seem accurate.
September 26, 2025 at 10:33 PM
My gosh, the rate of confirmed ideologically motivated crimes from the left is skyrocketing, from like 0.5% to what, 0.7%?

Meanwhile the rate of right wing terrorism continues the hard work of making sure that the Christians keep their lead over the Muslims splitting the other 99%.

I can see a future - and even a clear path - to where the Apple Watch pairs with some kind of display headset and altogether replaces the phone as the "CPU" of the wearable system. Right now it's just software (and maybe POTS?) keeping the iPhone a mandatory component of the system.

Kind of my only gripe with it is that it's not quite the form factor that I want, but it's most of it. A functional phone by all meaningful definitions, the size of an iPod Nano, with bluetooth and GPS but all apps are minimalist versions of themselves. I may give it a second chance.

As in, if the picture shows them on the stripper clip, they weren’t used and never made it to the rifle. Apparently he didn’t get around to using his “anti ice bullet”, must have been a plan for another day. Or more likely just fabricated evidence.
September 24, 2025 at 8:08 PM
in the event that picture turns out to be real, looks like a pretty direct copycat. That image shows a “stripper clip” of the sort that goes with the Mauser used in the Kirk crime. But also incompetent if they were anti-ice but killed only victims of ice.

But also those bullets aren’t loaded at all

It doesn’t sound different to you because it’s not part of your daily life. It is for a lot of people including millions of workers, veterans, students, etc.
