that's what background checks are for. once again, there are many other ways to express contempt for Musk without demonizing many others who may be dependent on pharms for their mental health, who struggle with addiction, or who simply use drugs recreationally and responsibly.

I can't get over the energy consumed by millions of bank employees commuting to their climate-climate controlled offices just so I can have the privilege of paying their salaries using inflated, debt-encumbered legal tender.

Musk's words and actions are sufficient to judge his character. Drug use, whether under prescription by a doctor or recreational, should not be used to smear a person's character. I'm sure Hunter Biden, George Floyd, and millions of others would agree.

Ukraine ranks #6 in global cryptocurrency adoption. Russia is #7. Does this mean Ukraine is more corrupt and criminal than Russia? of course it does not...

BTC is unique and I wouldn't lump it in with "crypto." there's a large part of the crypto market I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. but ETH, SOL and other large cap altcoins have relatively deep and liquid markets regardless of what you think of the fundamentals.

this is the nature of speculative markets. you can lose your shirt in real estate in exactly the same way.

bitcoin has crashed several times in its history. but you could have bought the top every time and held, and you'd still be in massive profit. buying a volatile asset doesn't wreck a weak hand, selling at a loss to a better trader does that...

is Canada or Mexico going to attack the US with bottle-rockets? US has Ground-Based Midcourse, AEGIS, THAAD, PATRIOT... not to mention 11 carrier strike groups if anyone tries to get too close.

Trump is a fool and a blowhard, why does National Review try to legitimize this nonsense?
December 19, 2024 at 12:38 AM
returning serve? trump was federally indicted on serious felony charges, backed up by mountains of incriminating evidence, and we will never see justice done.

by contrast, trump's baseless attacks on his "enemies" will only erode civil liberty and rule of law. and your false equivalence is helping.

I think small town and rural populations are pretty much the same people, culturally. The only real difference being how far they need to drive to get gas, groceries, etc.

I don't think the official rural/urban designations we see in government stats align well with the cultural self-identification
December 17, 2024 at 8:06 PM
I ran across this when looking at census data: the US Census recognizes Urbanized Areas (pop 50K+) and Urban Places (pop 2.5K+)

an officially designated Urban Place could seem to be very much small-town rural by our common experience

my uncle (bless his soul) was a heroin addicted gang biker who spent his short life in and out of prison. he taught me how to knife fight. but also he knew every Shakespeare play forward and backwards, along with just about every detail of European history from Rome to the Third Reich.

Bitcoin has appreciated from 0 to $100K with no help (and a fair bit of resistance) from the US government (which happens to be in $35Trillion of debt with no end in sight)

Bitcoin does not need the US Government. Perhaps the US government needs bitcoin? (this has nothing to do with asswipe Trump)

I read the River article too, and spent some time a while ago trying to reconcile the data. I concluded that wallet/address distribution can only give an oblique view of actual ownership distribution. But that wallet data is all we can see... I decided the 80/20 Rule is probably good enough.

real distribution of BTC is more top heavy than you suggest, but probably not much different than any other liquid/speculative asset class. insights.glassnode.com/bitcoin-supp...
