Whilst it's not his best work, unsurprisingly given it's a collection of tracks selected from his back catalogue 'Shards' is still a pretty good Tim Hecker record. Also a good reminder of how good he is at embellishing ambiance with dramatic flourishes.

I think Mogwai might be one of those bands where their output has soundtracked so many of my life experiences growing up that I'm basically incapable of being objective about their music.
