Hurray for Darlington (co. Durham) Public Library #libraries Internet Archive down so no 'The Naturalist' from 1909. Wanted 'Fungi in Mulgrave Woods'. They didn't have it but they had this! And special rates for Naturalists on the railways. They did have Yorkshire 'Feet of Fines', I wanted that too.

Another day and another cathedral - Durham. Peace doves. Also visit to uni library, to try to figure out how medieval pilgrimage to Egton chapel would have worked. Pope granted an indulgence in 1291. Got some ideas but anyone have suggestions?

Something complete different yesterday: day in Ripon! Visit to trio of museums - police & prison, workhouse and courthouse. Then concert at cathedral: Pink Floyd tribute band. Demographic: most old enough to have seen original band. Cathedral was full, too! Dean happy! Sound was amazing.

Using the adultery case of William and Isolde in Egton in 1357 to find out about medieval marriage, the church’s role, Isolde’s agency, and the parish in the 13th-14th century. Explore the making of a saint - St Hilda. Thursday. @bho.bsky.social @chppc.bsky.social

I'll be there as a guest to talk about a case of medieval adultery on the Moors and (of course) on St Hilda.

Hinderwell landscape from 18th-19th C. Still recognisable today. Many fields names, boundaries stayed the same. Roads and lanes still here today. Railway come and gone (see pencil marks on tithe map). Medieval manor of Seton probably seen in 19th C landholding.
