I have to remember what I hope for:
That everyone is fed.
That everyone has a roof over their head.
That every child gets a good education & has time for play.
That every adult has work they find fulfilling.
That we learn to live in harmony with the earth.
That we can live in peace. ❤️

Where is a cartoon of Trump/Musk taking a wrecking ball to the U.S. government?

"The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little."

Came looking for a photo the needy GSD! Here's a photo of our sadly long-gone, amazing girl. We rescued her after she was dumped at a shelter with an arthritic elbow. Their loss, our gain.

Sounds awful that native squirrels are being lost. Here they just bully the birds, dig up the yard burying acorns from the large oak out front, & race across the roof wearing combat boots.

Hardship, huh? Like breadlines? Like people jumping out of windows? Yeah, that was "hard" the last time it happened back in '29. I guess to the uber-rich it's just a temporary inconvenience, but to us...it's a disaster.

So after we #resist, who's our next FDR?

Highly recommend the current exhibit at D. C.’s Museum of American Art.“Pictures of Belonging” follows 3 female Japanese-American artists, showing their artwork before, during, & after WWII. The paintings of the internment camps speak to us of roundups going on right now. Timely & chilling.

I need to remind myself that in D. C. spring is almost here. With it, I hope to see the beginnings of an organized resistance—Feds slow-walking destructive orders, state & local governments protecting us, and everyday people standing up and participating in the resistance in large or small ways.

And this why I always bring my geraniums in for the winter. As long as I remember to fertilize them, we have flowers all year round.

Starve big Ag this summer—start a garden, find a community garden you can have a plot in, or sign up for a share in a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture).

This was my 1/2 share 1 week in the summer. My daughter’s 1/2 share in D.C. also included fruit. 👀

Vegetarian matzoh ball soup at the Parkway Diner in Silver Spring, MD. A great way to warm up! And while you’re waiting for dinner, enjoy their pickle bar. Yummmm

For now, sometimes we’ll need to be out being active, protecting ourselves from the cold, and protecting our friends who don’t have coats & boots. And sometimes we’ll need to hunker down with some cocoa & good friends.

But eventually, spring will come.

Huh. We know how the gov’t “takes care” of poor Black communities. Here’s one in the ‘60s. No running water, no electricity, paved roads or street lights. Not far from the center of DC & paying the same taxes as everyone else. Yes, they did “urban” redevelopment. www.nps.gov/articles/tob...

And for a moment, life feels good. Now…back to reading the news.

And don’t forget to visit the Roosevelt Memorial! It’s one of my favorites.

Writing on the wall here tells how many prisoners didn’t make it to the U.S. on these slave ships. Usually about 50% of the enslaved died en route, but sometimes only 15% made it to America.

If you ever get a chance, visit the National Museum of African American History & Culture. Today was my 3rd visit —there’s so much, you have to see it bit by bit—and I learned new things. nmaahc.si.edu

Homemade seitan, Campari tomatoes, avocado, lettuce, and vegan mayo on sourdough toast, and a perfectly ripe pear for dessert. Feeling quite happy and content rn.

Was cleaning up for Christmas & came across this pin from a women’s’ rights/pro-choice rally almost 35 years ago—about 500,000 marchers. And we’re still fighting for basic rights over our own bodies.

If you’re visiting Annapolis, MD, the Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum is opening a new art exhibit soon. Plus their permanent exhibit of Maryland’s Black history. It’s right near the State House. bdmuseum.maryland.gov/exhibitions/

Happy winter solstice, everyone!

OK, Goodreads blew right past me reading "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents" (excellent book!). Also recommend, "How the Word Is Passed: A Reckoning with the History of Slavery Across America," by Clint Smith. And if I'm not reading to educate, I do love dragons.
