Makes sense - the corridor round the outside would act as a sort of insulating/buffer zone for the rest of the house - there's no point in wasting heating on a corridor if you're just passing through

I guess that for dairy you need large areas of grass, and that kind of land is scarce in the rest of Japan. Cattle would need to be indoors for a fair while in Hokkaido

Love all the food, especially sausages and the noisette twirl. The Impressionist painter is one I haven't heard of, but nice stuff

What were they mining? Coal and iron both round those parts, I think.
