been staring at the sky for a good hour now

i don't need an ai to make flashcards for me, i don't need an ai to find a teacher for me, i don't need ai in my language learning at all and frankly i find it insulting to make something as inherently human as language learning to be so ai centered.

I'll get over it but I think I kind of need to mourn this opportunity a bit. idk

I needed to let this out here because I've been crying about it for the past few days sorry don't mind me

but yeah I'm so upset I won't even be able to do a single year in Japan. like it genuinely breaks my heart a little knowing that 3 or 4 months is the most I'll ever get

also current me hates 17 year old me for not pursuing translation as a major so I guess we're even

media without subtitles, because I've been thinking about this a lot with japanese and it makes me a little sad

anyways the next few months while i do my thesis & then hopefully my working holiday i'll have to do a lot of soul searching lol. i still don't have even the slightest idea of what i want to do professionally after uni. or rather, the things i want to do i'm not qualified for.

i also want to be fair to myself, in that when i started my masters degree, the first version of chatgpt wasn't even out (it came out a month after the semester started). people talked about ai as something we might improve in the far future.

doesn't make me like nlp any more but at least it's a posive outlook on everything

i really liked his perspective on it though: ai is here to stay and will only improve, whether we like it or not. at least if we work in the field, we can make sure it does as little damage as possible.
