I trusted you but had to verify, because how was that the top movie?! Yikes.
My favs from that year, 30 Days of Night; No Country for Old Men; 3:10 to Yuma; and Eastern Promises.

I had a great time with this buddy read, thanks for indulging me, and down the road if you ever feel like another one just let me know!

The Him and Them aspect is exactly what I was feeling to! Missed on the romantic vibe for me there.

vibes, it was light and fun with pinches of heavy at times. I liked Mason but he had some uneven, Linnet was pretty solid throughout and I liked getting to see her freed from her shell, and they had enjoyable chemistry. Will definitely read this author again!

she'd loose HER family inheritance. I get it's supposed to be a Big Romantic gesture but read messy aǹd whiffed on by me.

This wrapped with love declarations kind of quickly and bow perfect that felt slapped together but overall I still liked it. The Medieval setting gave enough to give me those..

I finished up chapters 28-epilogue

Ok, I don't know about this choose your option from the queen. It already seems like he's been using the family sigil pretty freely and his family accepts him, so that option feels whiff and the second option irks me a bit because it's choosing for Linnet...

Instead of the Hound of Demoyne, just call me the Hound of Bodice Rippers because when I tell you turgid man root did not faze me 😭

Yup, I was like I get it, he's the next MMC with this showcasing lol.

This! He's a general and we were told he's the main reason they captured a city so quick. I know this is love instead of war but it seems like some aspects of his personality would bleed through to others, why add that to his characterization otherwise?

feels to serve up that straight narrowed view of possessive MMC.
December 9, 2025 at 6:38 PM
I wish we could see him demonstrating, like he did with pointing out how the Jevon's placed the tents out the window just right to fool Linnet, so I could get that rounded out character feel more. Not that he can't have vulnerabilities, obvs I want him too, but they're coming off fluff that...

Ok, summoned to court, feel like some 3rd act about to drop.

Mason reading Linnet's Sir Mauncey tales (Canterbury Tales nod?) and getting in his feels is showing he cares but I'm still struggling if it feels/coming off natural. I guess he started off with big tough competence guy mode, which, ...

Read chapters 17-27

"Do you want to know the truth?" He moved his mouth to her ear. "I'd be disappointed if anything changed about you Linnet. Anything at all."

Mason can drop some lines, I'll give him that. His character feels a little uneven? These lines then 180 possessive immaturity.

So unsatisfying. I was in a rut for awhile where the romance genre aspect was eclipsed by a women's fiction feel. Those are two separate genres I read for two different reasons.
Why I don't mind these two started off messy, allows for growth and that makes a good reading journey.
