He’s a great example of a character I think would take off if the game was made. His brash personality and animosity towards Hal Jordan are the kinds of things that tend to endear audiences towards characters.His wacky design is memorable and fun to draw, so I could see plenty of fan art. For how he’d play, We have another decent wall who could use his large body to take hits. I could also see him as an offensive type, cometing into his enemies and pushing them out of the way so his allies have a clear path. When de-powered he could roll around like Chaselon and still do decent damage. Like Brik but balanced between offence and defence.

This #CutieHoney villain had a backstory and it's super sad. She's a mermaid whose sister was caught and beat to death by fishermen when they found out she cried jewels.
Honey doesn't care. Disguised herself as the sister and manipulated her.

Siren is mostly based off Mera, since they’re twins, but with sharper edges. I want Xebel to have different fashion than Atlantis, going for a more “classic” look since they had been separated from the rest fo the world for so long. I wouldn’t give her the scales on her costume if I was to redraw her since I’ve made that more of an Atlantean thing. Kordax is one of the coolest parts of Atlantis’ history. The child of Dardanus, a traumatized cousin to the royal family who witnessed his father murder his mother and a serum that was supposed to help his people turn them into monsters and led to the half fish Tritonians, and the unwilling Princess Cora. Possibly because Dardanus and his father has dabbled in dark magics Kordax was born a monster and abandoned the way all royal children with his yellow hair would be from that point on. He’s a great dark mirror of Aquaman, having similar powers, origin and feeling of coming from multiple worlds but belonging entirely to neither. I also like that he looses the opposite hand to Aquaman and also replaces it with a weapon. I can’t remember if they ever confirm what evil magics his father and grandfather were tapping into, but I would love it if it was the Abyssal Dark, an ancient demon sleeping bellow Atlantis. I think that creature would be a great way to link together many of Atlantis’ similarly mutated characters. A mutated tiger shark who has been sent through “millions of years of evolution” and absorbing the knowledge of every human around him using his telepathic powers, but retaining his single-minded desire to find prey. He fought Green Lantern and eventually Aquaman. A goofy but powerful villain with a memorable look (until he’s rebooted into a typical were-shark) and fun backstory. Despite that not being how evolution works, I’d like to see tiger sharks develop into creatures like Karshon in the Legion of Superheroes time. Since Karshon is able to telepathically install fear in others and started as a GL villain I could see him becoming a Yellow Lantern. The Olympic god Triton who makes his father Poseidon’s temper look tame. He challenges Aquaman for the perceived slight of the Atlantean “fearing their king more than him”. Aquaman actually kills Triton’s physical form and humiliates him further. I believe he also tried to assault Wonder Woman when she was younger, and Aquaman helping her escape led to them having a connection. I gave him lighter outlines to make him feel more ethereal than the other characters and left his eyes white.

The design is heavily based on the New 52 version with some of my Atlantian motifs added on. I wanted to keep his manta ray symbol. Qwisp is Aquaman’s Mr.Myxptlc and I think he’d be good for a show. At one point he realizes Aquaman has gotten dower and changes his appearance and behaviour to match, which would be a fun episode in a darker season. The Eel is a hydro kinetic gun-for-hire. Another jobber like the Human Flying Fish but with a costume I think would catch on better with casual fans. In the 1 appearance I know him from, he is going after Mera so having them regularly fight and making her more of a rogue for her than Aquaman could be interesting. The Thirst is the “brother” of the Waterbearer, the goddess who gave Aquaman his magic water hand, summoned when Aquaman used his hand for evil. He is made of dry river mud and was absorbing the Secret Sea deities to gain their power. A parasite of godlike power who could be fun if applied to the wider DC universe. I’d like to see him connected to the Rot or even the Black Lanterns as a symbol of death.

I imagine him as a speedy, but low damage dealing Duelist who fires off construct fangs with altered venom inside. The venom could cause all kinds of effects, blurring the opponents screen, slowing them down, causing chip damage, or reducing any regeneration effects they have. He could be played like sneaky ninja, slipping behind enemy lines and weakening their defences so the other Lanterns can overtake them. He could also have a fire-breath ability as a smoke screen to escape pursuers when cornered. He could literally duel with his sharp tail. Any constructs would be used to distill and deliver his venom.

I like when comics bring back a character or their traits to make something new, and the second Black Jack is an interesting way to do that. The original was a golden age villain more like a regular pirate. This new one is an agent for N.E.M.O., a clandestine organization which Black Manta takes over. I love jobber super villains. They add so much life to the worlds they’re in and can be really interesting when given focus. I could see him picking up odd villain jobs and living out of a rundown apartment he’s 3 months behind on his rent for. But he’s got big dreams of joining the Injustice League or the Flash Rogues. If they ever call him back. He’s got a bit of a Kite-Man thing going on. Easy to laugh at, but also fun to watch. I’d love to see him team up with (or clash egos with) the second Marine Marauder. This look is a dressed down version of his suit when working for Tri-Dent and his original appearance. An evil Aquaman from Netherspace. A great use of an alternate costume a hero used to wear. I like how he used to be drawn so much larger than Aquaman. With how he goes from seething, barely held back rage to a grinning maniac makes me think he’s an Aquaman who succumb to the curse of insanity in their families bloodline. I had to greatly simplify the Stealth Suit, and it’s probably still a little too complex for what I was going for, but I like the median I ended up with. I tried to keep his features similar to my Aquaman design, just more jagged and sharp, with darker bags around the eyes and a more controlled hairstyle. I read the story about these jellyfish guys way back and was surprised no one used them again. They are the original lifeforms that used to occupy where Atlantis sunk and have been lying in wait to reclaim their home using their psionic powers to push the Atlantians into getting rid of themselves. I would love to see this story told again with a slower buildup. Maybe we see huge pink jellyfish floating around the background of a few panels, slowly building up their frequency, until one day Aquaman is shocked out of a daze by a voice telling him not to let them notice he can see them and to “Get out of the water!”. As if waking up from a dream, he sees the countless jellyfish all over his castle. He goes to his room and sees 3 in their, one by Mera and the other by their baby’s crib. One looks at him and Mera asks what he’ doing as if it told her too and he says he’s stressed and wanted to check on the baby before going for a swim. Then he sees how many there are in his kingdom. I actually wouldn’t want him to kill them or run them out. Instead I’d like to see the man caught between surface and sea appeal to the jellyfish and feel for their plight. He could make a place for them as Atlantian citizens and try to make reparations. That way, we could see him dealing with social unrest an paranoia surrounding them. That could be used to parallel real world issues. Maybe a jellyfish could stand on the Atlantian council as a representation of their people.

I’m trying to keep Atlantian clothing recognizably similar. They have the same scale patterns, form-fitting “superhero look”, and the little leg fins. Mera doesn’t have the leg fins and I’m not sure if that will be a thing for people from Xebel. Maybe her OG design could be Xebelian fashion while this is a modified Atlantian design. Ot Poseidonian since her look lines up well with my drawing of Tempest. He’s one of the characters that inspired me to make these designs because he’s such an under-utilized idea. I imagine him as an actual scavenger, looting underwater sites of battles and digging up any cool scrap left behind. He could be a smuggler who keeps the best stuff for himself while selling everything else to various land and sea based villains like the Fisherman (who are both trying to con each other but it ends up evening out). His armour could be a piecemeal of other characters stuff that he found at the battle sight and welded together. I would think he’d have a whole armoury of Batarangs that washed into Gotham Bay. Because of that, he’ll have more than 1 design. Since his OG design looks like Black Manta with a different helmet my brother suggested that his current suit is a stollen Manta one with his armour built on top. The Trench are an example of one of my favourite tropes. The horde of ravenous creatures which are not a huge threat individually, but together are a force of nature. I like to think that the Abyssal Dark had some influence on the Atlantians who eventually mutated into these creatures. It would be cool if they had some connection to the Fire Trolls or Giant Jellyfish who also live under the ocean floor. Maybe they’re the detergent which keeps the Fire Trolls from spilling out from the ocean floor. Demon Gate killed Aquaman’s dolphin mom, so I wanted to make him look extra evil. I thinned him out in the waist and bulked out his chest to emphasize his skeletal body. I wanted to lean into the 80s-90s body-horror mecha-anime vibe he has going. Considering how killing a loved one is typically a free pass to arch-villain territory, I would think he’d be more well known.

A non-Lantern #GreenLantern #villain. #Goldface used a toxic waste infused chest of gold to make a serum and gained a golden glow ("Auric Energy"), super-strength and invulnerability. He wears gold plated armour and has a Gold Gun that sprays liquid gold.
He's goofy but neat.
I imagine him in a GL FPS as a mid-range vanguard who can make walls with his Gold Gun and petrify opponents by spraying them with gold, leaving them as statues until they break out. His armour would make him hard to take out, but he wouldn’t be able to do much damage on his own, relying on allies to take advantage of petrified opponents to do the damage for him. In the theoretical game, players would choose their Corps from the emotional spectrum and each team would have advantages and disadvantages. I wasn’t sure if I wanted non-Lanterns to be their own Corps with the widest array of abilities, but with drawbacks, or if they’d be available for every Corps. Goldface would have the advantages of a Yellow Lantern. Higher damage and defence against Green, but without the chance to “Terrify” after an elimination.

Emerald Twilight was my first GL story, and is my favourite so far. I read it way back, but started deep diving into the 90s era (not realizing what that lead up to) and now I'm convinced people disliking the storyline is more about reputation or of-the-time preferences than the story or Hal.

The Predator is one of the reasons I like the idea that a lot of corps were named wrong. Between this, the costumes, and becoming obsessed with people who broke their heart and trapping them in crystals to possess forever stuff the Star Sapphires feel like a Lust corps.

I started with Emerald Twilight. I don't recommend starting there, but the next place I started was Vol 3 (1990-2004) which turned out to be the lead-in to Emerald Twilight.

Honestly, GL feels like the kind of comic where it's more fun to pick a random place and piece it all together as you go.
