Since October I've worked on a project to collect #craftbeer venues from all over the world. As RateBeer decided to close down, removing all their (outdated) venue directories as well, I want to offer wheretodrink.beer to replace some of the void left behind. It's WiP, in need of a community #beer

Added a different style for venues that have announced they're shutting down 🫗

Usually we don't catch closures until after the fact, but when we do we can contribute to spark some urgency for that last pint, and a chance to thank the staff for all the beer 🍻

Adding FHRS ratings for venues in the UK today. Free and open datasets and APIs should be the standard any government strive for

Looking for data in other countries has been a major let down. The only other that came close was Norway. If you know, let me know..

🚀 Crossed the 1000th venue threshold today, from 157 locations in 42 countries

An increase in crowd sourced venues (someone from New Zealand added 10+ new ones) after a post in the monthly "What are you working on" at hacker news got us there 🍻

💻 Got some feedback, while working from the pub, that our venue review age demographics were to restrictive. So, we swapped it to a range slider. Now we wait for it to break some hard coded rules in the backend #buildInPublic #wheretodrink #craftbeer

Cleanup on the #beer aisle? Sometimes the periodic cleanup is particularly devastating, and we had to remove 17 venues today that are no longer open. Thanks for all the beer! 🫗

Here’s what it communicates in words: X-axis (horizontal): Dates, starting from mid-June and going through early September. Y-axis (vertical): Net changes per week, ranging from -18 to +18. Bars: Each bar shows whether that week had more venues/cities added (bar pointing up) or removed (bar pointing down). Key observations: Most weeks in June, July, and early August had positive changes, meaning new cities or venues were added — some weeks had big jumps of +10 to +18. Minor addition to venue pages today, finally added in the maps that I've been thinking about for half a year. Small wins 🍻

Ended up choosing MapBox, and a hybrid solution where I pre-generate maps, and only load the interactive map after user clicks to get the most from free tier 💸

Debating whether er not to add user accounts to the site. I like the simplicity of not dealing with users, but it would be cool to have personal bucket lists, and verified venue endorsements 🤔

It can be done poorly without accounts, but the ux would be so much better with

Quick stop in #Oslo, #Norway yesterday dropping by one of our local favourites #Brygg. Had a good collection of ipas from doskiwis and Rivington from their 30+ taps. Also had a good smash burger from one of their popups.
