It’s unfortunate and multifaceted, but the apathy of people is countered by direct experience with community I think. If we as people can tune out politics and just watch a netflix show, politics becomes just another source of entertainment rather than a requirement for life.

I would think it’s because no institution exists without human involvement. Institutions are tools, and much like a hammer can’t hit a nail by itself, our government can’t stop fascism by itself. We have all of the tools necessary to stop fascism, but we’re not using them and most people don’t care.

Thank you for the context. However, I’m genuinely curious, what can he do past criticizing the administration? The man is the host of a comedy show. He’s not a politician. It does seem to be the case that the institution is capable of stopping fascism. We just need the political will to do so.

The thing is, these checks and balanced do work. There’s just not enough political will for them to be used, since the party that elected Trump isn’t based on values, but on a cult for Trump.

It sounds like he does. I only started to watch the daily show this year in light of events, so I have no idea what kind of stuff he’s said before. However, the past few months the man has been pretty consistent in deeply criticizing the administration.

It’s a bit man. Cool off. John is simply saying that Trump is *openly* attacking institutions at a very rapid rate and playing that up for a joke.

They can’t just “get power”. We aren’t a country of kings, but of representatives. We the people are where the power lies. Also, publicity is not equal to action.

Lol. Maybe attach answers to your questions, and you’ll look less stupid.

Your assumption was incorrect, and my question is genuine. You’re asking a lot of questions, which is great. However, asking a question is the precursor to an investigation, not the investigation itself. You don’t need capability to measure astronomical events. You can read papers on the subject.
April 7, 2025 at 1:49 PM
You must understand that these questions have answers you can seek out yourself, and that *just* asking these questions is simply not persuasive. I’m not willing to place you on equal grounds with a scientific field made up of tens of thousands of people over hundreds of years.
April 7, 2025 at 1:46 PM
I would assume you’ve investigated those questions already. Any interesting answers?
April 5, 2025 at 6:52 PM
But we’re not talking about “at the time”. We’re talking about current scientific understanding. It is always possible that scientific theories are incorrect. You just have to have an adequate amount of justification before you make a bold claim like yours.
April 5, 2025 at 6:50 PM
Understood, and that’s a shame. But, your justification for your hypothesis has so far only been to point to the Egyptians. Do you have any observations about reality you can point to that show you may be onto something?
April 5, 2025 at 6:46 PM
And you are correct. I would probably be deeply skeptical of Columbus if the only information to go off was his gut (which is what you make it sound like). The sun creating matter directly opposes hundreds of years of established science that is *predictive* and *descriptive* of the natural world.
April 3, 2025 at 7:09 PM
It’s a deeply philosophical question, but the buck stops with you. If you believe the Egyptians were correct in supposing the sun creates matter, try to prove it. However, you need to provide justifications besides, “some ancient people posited so” when you try to convince others of your views.
April 3, 2025 at 7:06 PM
Your method of inquiry is very close to how we already do science. However, in order to “suppose” something, you need a leg to stand on, otherwise you open yourself up to the white noise of possibilities. Your supposition isn’t based on anything, therefore, it isn’t any more worth investigating.
April 3, 2025 at 11:24 AM
What is the process by which the sun creates matter?

Saw this as a kid and it’s seared into my brain.

It’s only performative if Cory Booker doesn’t believe what he says and isn’t acting on what he says.
April 2, 2025 at 1:24 PM
WOW
April 2, 2025 at 1:21 PM
This misses the most important part of the definition of the word. Identifying someone as “performative” means that they are acting not in accordance to their beliefs. They are performing their false beliefs in order to get something from others. We all perform, but not performatively.
