Moths, occasionally birds. Still a grumpy dad, still hoping to mellow with age
One for the moth dissection crew. I keep flipping between November and Pale November Moth for this preparation. I originally had it down as dilutata, but after clean up and staining I’m now wondering if it’s christyi? Any help appreciated #teammoth

Goods numbers in wet conditions last night in SE Hants. 67/23 with some micros still in the fridge. Migrants (ha!) 3 RDP, 3 Turnip, 1 Blair’s Mocha. Best of rest, 1 Merv, 1 Sprawler and a late Vine’s Rustic. Traps away for a few day after 6 nights on the bounce #teammoth

Bag of nails last night in SE Hants. 42/14, 23 of them November Moth agg not even a good looking one to dull the pain. 1 RDP for migrants. Best of the rest, C. quercana and a nicely marked B. lacticolella. 2 more days left of the much anticipated migration moth fest to go 🤪😭 #teammoth
November 7, 2025 at 10:05 AM
An exact rerun of last night. A small flurry of moths then nothing, cold and clear. I can’t compete with this #teammoth

Having poked every shrub and plant in the garden 67/27 was the trap total in SE Hants. Migrants; 1 of White point, RDP and a stunning Blair’s Mocha. Large Wainscot was a hoped for NFG. A possible NFG A. notana needs 🪓. A. hastiana and a Flying V Nov moth agg best of the rest #teammoth #migrantmothuk

Right going the full hog tonight.
2 traps ✔️
3 lures ✔️
2 groundsheets fully opened ✔️
Amyl acetate liberally spread ✔️

Surely I can get one decent migrant moth with that lot? I can’t shake the feeling that it’s going to be a dud. I might even sacrifice a nice red just to make sure 🙏🏻🙏🏻 #teammoth

Continuing the nice November Moth agg trend for the garden I found this one on the bench. Also during the check I disturbed this nicely marked LBAM from the shrubbery. Desperate times 😖 #teammoth

Given the bad weather 49/15 wasn’t the worst in SE Hants. RDP the only migrant last night with standard autumn fare making up the bulk of the rest. Antigastra catalaunalis was reported from north Hants #teammoth

Traps out for the third night in a row, I couldn’t do this in summer 😆
Conditions worse than last night, but no trap, no moth.

Anyone else, or are you all saving yourselves for the big wahooney tomorrow night?? #teammoth

Moth stat time Oct 2025 in SE Hants. 12 traps, 732 moths, 20 NFY, 2 NFG. Yearly running totals of 12554 moths, 580 Species, 91 NFG. Anarsia lineatella (2nd county record) and Golden Twin-spot were NFG. Orange Sallow and Frosted Orange were good garden records #teammoth
November 4, 2025 at 2:52 PM
Always worth a final check, the lawn area around the trap produced 2 Yellow-line Quaker and a NFY Sprawler 😊 #teammoth

Good numbers last night in SE Hants. 68/22 but nothing new. 2 each of Turnip and Rush Veneer the only migrants. Best of the rest, lates of Vine’s Rustic, Barred Sallow and an unexpected Humming-bird Hawk-moth on the salvia whilst emptying the trap #teammoth
November 4, 2025 at 9:48 AM
29/16 here in SE Hants last night. Nothing new, the highlight was a Rush Veneer coming into the trap as I was checking it at 6.45am, suggesting stuff was on the move. 1 RDP the other migrant. A couple of Bricks and a Green-brindled Crescent the best of the rest #teammoth

Anyone trapping the light fantastic tonight? #teammoth

Things to do whilst completely avoiding updating and tidying up my moth records, version 10.

Clean dishwasher filter and seals ✔️
Tidy office + shred paperwork ✔️
Make homemade mince pies ✔️
Start moth records 15 mins before dinner ✔️

57/26 last night in SE Hants. Star moth was Golden Twin-spot NFG and most wanted! 2 NFY December moth, earliest by 1 week and half a November Moth, the other half I assume was in a bat. Migrants were Blair’s Mocha, Diamond Back, RDP, Angles Shades, Turnip #teammoth #migrantmothuk

Oooooh new shiny! #teammoth
October 31, 2025 at 8:21 AM
One of the two traps out tonight. I have a new sacrifice for the moth gods, homemade orange and lemon curd, or maybe some of the dog biscuits rather than the dog himself? #teammoth
October 30, 2025 at 5:31 PM
84/32 in SE Hants last night. Good weather conditions again for trapping. The only NFY was the Brick x2. Migrants were 4x Turnip, 1x Angle Shades and 1x White point. Still not sure on the Mocha, tending towards Birch now 🤷🏻‍♂️. Agonopterix ciliella agg needs further work. #teammoth #migrantmothuk

Very odd mothing out there tonight. I think someone’s been adding mushrooms to my tea #teammoth
October 27, 2025 at 7:44 PM
Worth the leccy last night 30/17 in SE Hants. Lesser YU is on the later side of its season, A. umbrana only the 4th record, Cypress Carpet and Blair’s Shoulder-knot continue their good seasons. 4 MdJ, an odd CMC, RDP and Blair’s Mocha as possible migrants were best of #teammoth #migrantmothuk
October 27, 2025 at 8:19 AM
El Tel avoided tonight, LYU, LBAM and another one of the nicely marked November Moth aggs #teammoth
October 26, 2025 at 10:05 PM
One for the purists, I need a check on the IDs please. Phyllonorycter cerasicolella (not spinicolella) for the first and Coleophora lineolea for the second. Both August in SE Hants. All comments welcome and yes the gen dets weren’t the best. Probably the last 2 NFGs of the year #teammoth
October 25, 2025 at 9:55 AM
16/9 in SE Hants. Conditions were awful, rain from set up at 6pm, gusting winds overnight. Only 2 migrants to show for it, RDP and Blair’s Mocha. 3 Merveille du Jour were a nice bonus. Incredibly a LBAM made an appearance. A very dark November Moth agg was best of the rest. #teammoth #migrantmothuk

Looks like the disease is spreading rapidly from @rwhooster.bsky.social garden. Blair’s Shoulder-knot the next species to succumb to the plague. #dramaqueenmoth #teammoth
