Early start for @btobirds.bsky.social WeBS counts this morning at 3 local reservoirs. Usual waterbirds with breeding confirmed for Mallard & Little Grebe and Gt Crested Grebes on nests. Plenty of Curlew in surrounding fields, hunting Barn Owl and lots of warblers including numerous Garden Warblers.

Early morning visit to a @btobirds.bsky.social Heathland Bird survey square yesterday up on the Midhope Moors. Unsurprisingly no Dartford Warblers but breeding Curlew, a very vocal Cuckoo and Ring Ouzel always good to see #yorkshirebirding

First Nightjar of the year yesterday evening hawking along the road between Barnside Moor and the woods around Midhope Reservoir. No churring birds yet though. At least 4 Woodcock seen or heard too plus Oystercatcher, Curlew & Lapwing. #yorkshirebirding

Early morning trip to 3 local reservoirs this morning. Highlights female Goldeneye & 2 female Goosander at Royd Moor, 11 Oystercatcher and pair of nesting Tree Sparrow at Broadstone. Plenty of Common Gull, Meadow Pipit, Yellowhammer & Skylark at all three. #yorkshirebirding

@btobirds.bsky.social Heronry survey of an inaccessible colony in a wood that can, just about, be viewed from the old Goldthorpe to Bentley coal railway. Seems stable with 8 occupied nests viewable and 2 more suspected judging from where birds land. Bonus of 2 Redshank landing on the flooded field.
