This is a five-alarm fire. There are many fires burning right now, and this one is harder to fully grasp than some.

But while tariffs will do rapid economic damage, this one is not only an economic threat but has moved us another big step toward losing our democracy entirely. 12/12

Of course it will lead to corruption. But it is also deeply, deeply authoritarian.

And I’m not even getting into the other big danger, which is permanently breaking vital government functions—air traffic control, Medicare provision, CDC disease tracking—with indiscriminate top-down cuts. 11/x

There is a reason that the actual federal faucet has always been controlled by apolitical bureaucrats.

Having a president (or an unelected billionaire) with direct, granular control of a quarter of all U.S. spending is power beyond the Founders’ wildest dreams. 10/x

and im done with this so im just going to point out that the original statement about why Utley > Pedroia was

“Because defense counts too and it's not close there.”

just flat nonsense. you can argue utley was better than pedroia defensively but you cannot argue it was not close.

also i think you were way too dismissive of errors. utley made a lot of errors even in his peak. pedroia’s career low FP was 983 while utleys career high was 986. theres a reason utley never won a GG, his contemporaries never considered him the best fielding 2B in the league.

i dont think there is actual evidence that utleys injuries affected his on-field performance. he didnt have a bad defensive year until his age 34 season.

pedroia never got to play an age 34 season. maybe you can say pedroia would have declined as well but we never got to see it.

perhaps Pedroia’s career ending injury didnt allow him to have the god awful stretch utley did from age 34-39. but make the longevity argument. Not “Pedroia isn't close defensively by the eye test or advanced metrics.” because thats just not true even by your own standards.

Just pointng out you posted a table without Pedroia who has 99 career fielding runs in 28% fewer games. so with the same # of games as Utley he would rank 9th on that chart.

Found some time.

24 second basemen logged 3000+ innings since 2003 (when UZR starts and also when Utley debuted.)

1. Placido Polanco - 10.2
2. Dustin Pedroia - 9.1
3. Chase Utley - 8.6

If you are lucky enough and worked hard enough to have a HOF vote, you should at least make an effort.
