So hard to believe that this project was nearly a decade ago. My hand still twitch thinking about it.

If you're feeling sad, or helpless, or stifled, or desperate, might I suggest diving into a community art project? You'd be surprised at how effective these babies are at building local goodwill.

A painting of the Big Muddy, in honor of the fact that I've lived within 150 miles of this behemoth for 40 of my 45 years on the planet. To learn more about this fella, check out whatsgoodproject.com/thoughts/gre...

The unofficial title of this underpainting is "I pledge allegiance to a quilt." Seems like a better bet tbh.

One of my favorite parts of the WGP is talking to folks and using these conversations to guide my learning of the place. As we become more and more tethered to online "research," we sometimes disregard folks' lived experiences in place of data, which can strip the humanity out of anything.

Always my guinea pig, Husband Aaron agreed to be my first conversation for the What’s Good Project. His task was to take me to a place that lights him up, so he drove me to Prairie Ridge Campground at Rathbun Lake in southern Iowa. Here's a scene from that day and the first WGP painting ever.
