Monkey Facts and Identification
@whatmonkeyisthat.bsky.social
I love monkeys. many people don't know anything about monkeys, so I am here to correctly identify monkeys and stop the spread of monkey related rumours

not a bot

MONKEYS ARE NOT PETS
but what about the tails?

its most likely the pipos are based off japanese macaques which have very short tails, so they are probably in the pipos pants

but what about the red faces that japanese macaques have???

well their faces are not always so red! it varies on season, genetics, and age

in the opening cutscene, even in the japanese version, you can clearly see the pipos are escaping from a MONKEY park

a monkey park in japan is a tourist attraction thats almost like a zoo, but has wild monkey troops that usually can roam freely around the park. specifically monkeys, never apes

the US title is actually misleading to the original name, probably for the sake of the nicer sounding rhyme of ape and escape

the original japanese title is Sarugetchu (サルゲッチュ) or "saru get you" Saru is the japanese word for monkey and ape so really they could be either. but theres a bit more

monkey speculation!

lets talk about Ape Escape, one of my favourite videogames
are the pipos monkeys or apes?

this seems like a pretty easy question, they're obviously apes! the game is called ape escape and they look like chimps so case closed right? well there's some conflicting information

monkey fact!

you can tell the difference between an ape and a monkey by the tail. only monkeys have tails, but this is not always easily apparent

the barbary macaque has tail but it is so small it can be completely invisible! same with the japanese macaque, but their tails are slightly longer

i'd say the most fitting monkey to be an assassin would be the squirrel monkey, they are small and nimble

in german their name is "Totenkopfaffe" which translates to skull monkey

also they apparently rub their urine on their hands for some reasons, maybe they could do that with poison? gross!

MONKEY FACTS

1. this is a spider monkey

2. having a pet monkey is illegal in most places, as it should be! because even though they're cute, living in a house or cage and being isolated from the social life of a wild monkey is very mentally damaging to them. look it up!

3. he wasnt rampaging >: /

monkey fact!!

considering this is japanese art, it looks like this is a japanese macaque. they are also known as snow monkeys and are the same type of monkeys who live in the snowy mountains of japan and swim in hot springs!

monkey fact!

the description of the picture says the monkey is a Mexican black howler, however it appears to actually be a type of spider monkey

here is a howler monkey, and a spider monkey
