BBC archive documentaries. For a while there progressive society had these viewpoints quiet for fear of being ostracised for their views, but now are empowered by populist windbags wielding little power but given amplification by problematic media. It may result in what we see in the US.

Yes it's a bizarre false notion based on the warped idea "it used to be better then" but what they really mean is they think it was better in their minds eye because they think there were less foreigners. It's a Small England way of thinking, you see it pop up through the ages in those old BBC>

(John Hurt reading The Strange Tale of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde is a thing that stayed with me forever, so this was a special treat, safely transcoded to mp3 so I can listen without fishing an old tape player out of the loft!)

These days in spot I'm spoilt with the vast selection available. I still pickup physical books for my absolute faves though. And this year my other half tracked down the same cassette audiobooks of Ring of Bright water, Dracula, and Jekyll & Hyde as gifts for me. 🥰

I still enjoyed reading at this time, having just discovered Terry Pratchett at this time, I was gobbling up fantasy novels including Dragonlance, and Terry Brooks work. But audiobooks became my mainstay as time went on and I felt I had less time to just pickup a book.

I grew up with audiobooks. 1970s/80s my mum would read us chapters of books at bedtime. Enid Blyton, and The Hobbit were memorable. I borrowed audiobook tapes from school library in my teens. Ring of bright water, Dracula,Jekyll and Hyde, and The Odessa File were my limited but diverse selection 😊
