This one just was not it for me. Beautiful folio edition though! ⭐️⭐️/5

🌻Circe🌻
Another 4 star read for me! My main issue with this text is that Telemachus was my least favorite character in the Odyssey so I didn’t like that this gave him a redemption arc. Circe herself is a really interesting character though.

🥀Clytemnestra🥀
Probably my favorite retelling/reimagining of classic Greek stories that I have read so far!

This weekend I presented at the #BSLS annual conference! I gave a paper on Charlotte Brontë’s Shirley and the Development of Effective Medical Care in the Victorian Novel ✨📚 It was a great opportunity to hear some excellent talks and share my research! #academicsky #booksky

Reading for my PhD thesis??? Couldn’t be me.
This was a great little read on the role of sisters (especially older, unmarried ones) in the English family.

🪷The Legend of Meneka🪷
⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a fairly fun, quick little read, but I struggled to really get into it. This is supposed to be the first of a duo, but I likely won’t bother getting the second book when it comes out. I’m just not invested enough.

🌿Trip Packing!🌿
Do you bring books on vacation?
I am going on a nine day round trip next week and these are the three books I am taking with me! I usually only bring one book if I am flying, but since we will have the car I am taking advantage of the space to overpack! 😅

Last week of term! I’ll be teaching Atwood’s Penelopiad this week and I am really looking forward to it. The genre mixing was really interesting.

Before the Coffee Gets Cold ☕️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a super quick read. The story was really interesting but sometimes the writing (perhaps because it is a translation?) was a bit odd.

Happy Friday! I finished Martin Chuzzelwit today! Super happy to have gotten this massive book off of my tbr (it has been there mocking me for quite some time). Some of this was quite slow, but it really picked up for the last 300 pages or so! 3.5 stars from me.

🧱The Brickfield by LP Hartley
This book held my interest throughout but was a bit disappointing. The narration style was a bit choppy and the climax wasn’t very climactic. 3 stars from me. #booksky

Lud-in-the-Mist and a perfectly posed Radish 💕🍇
This one took a little bit to get into but overall I really enjoyed it! It sounds like Hope Mirrlees was a really interesting person as well so I will be doing a little research into her life and works.

Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️
First Love is a novella by Turgenev that tells the story of a boy’s (you guessed it!) first love. It does not go the way the boy has planned though, as he soon discovers the girl loves someone else…

Quick little library read! Unfortunately, My Lady Ludlow is not Gaskell’s finest work. A few solid moments and a couple of quotes that might sneak into the introduction of my thesis, but overall the characters just weren’t very interesting.
