Japanese-style sandwiches at 7-Eleven in the US? I'm intrigued...

The egg salad seemed pretty accurate, though the bread was maybe not as sweet and soft as the Japanese version.

Anyway 7/10 and much cheaper than a flight to Tokyo

Days like this provide a rare insight into how much of our technology runs on Amazon’s infrastructure.

Semi-related: I had a recent collaboration with some entomologists - I built little circuits that read tiny RFID tags attached to the bumblebees they study (one shown here) as the bees come and go. It's like a FasTrak or EZPay tollbooth, but for bugs!

Looks like you can still find Letraset rub-on chemical structures on eBay; I might need to buy a sheet just to show the young'uns how good they have it with ChemDraw.

My favorite Robert Redford movie, though lately it feels like a relic from a time long gone.

❤️❤️❤️ these posters in the Geology building at UC Riverside ❤️❤️❤️

Seriously, why aren't we putting messages like these everywhere? I'd happily chip in some pro-NSF and pro-NIH billboards? 🧪

I've never been to one of these events, so my knowledge of them is based on their depictions in episodes of "Mr. Bean" and "Wallace and Gromit," which I assumed were satires.

But now I'm questioning that assumption...

"Disintegration Fingerprinting" converts the disintegration and dissolution of a pill into a digital fingerprint. We used it to test 32 different drug products and found that it correctly identified 90% of these pills. 🧪

You can stare at this figure and "cross your eyes" (the same thing you do to see those "Magic Eye" illusions from the '90s) and the duplicated portions kinda reveal themselves... (1/3)

Guess how I found out that a pecan log looks just like a block of plastic explosives on an airport security scanner?

In case it matters: I think I edited the MyShake settings a while back to receive notifications for smaller earthquakes (just because I'm a nerd and this tech fascinates me) so maybe that's why I received a notification? (1/2)

I got a notification from the MyShake app, though it arrived right in the middle of the shaking. Still nice to glance at my watch and get an estimate of the magnitude mid-shake.

Ha! I won't judge - I brought back three bags of ketchup chips from Canada last week (and my son even packed this bag in a metal lunchbox for its protection).

I don't understand why American chip companies haven't just copied this flavor. It's delicious and unlike anything we have down here.

Thanks to @shabbirsafdar.bsky.social and @safemedicines.bsky.social for having me on the Partnership for Safe Medicines podcast!

I had a great time chatting with Shabbir about my lab's work developing tools for fighting fake medicines. Listen to the episode here: www.podbean.com/media/share/... 🧪

The twins have started buying "antique robots" (i.e. from my childhood) on eBay and fixing them.

Here's Robie the Robotic Banker, who I fondly remember playing with at Radio Shack back in the '80s.
