Countdown to #TransHistoryWeek: 5 days to go!

What are some things you can do to make sure you're ready?

My Monday Mood:

Ever heard of the Conway Effect? No, it’s not a sci-fi time paradox (though that would be cool). It’s named after Lynn Conway (1938–2024), a transgender computer scientist who revolutionised computing. If you’re reading this on a phone, you can thank her.

They were legitimate prisoners because their identities were outlawed in Paragraph 175. By being gay or trans, they were committing crimes.

Whilst this law existed before and after (1871-1994), we cannot overlook the aggressive spike in convictions under Nazi reign.

Step right up, y’all! It’s your Weekend trans+ history lesson!

It’s about Texas, and it’s about all of us.

If I can help you, let me know. I mean that wholeheartedly. You have me in your corner.

And, if you’ve made it this far, here’s the other thing besides trans+ history I have to offer: the icon that is Maxine.

in case you were wondering: yes, pin badges are still treated as currency in queer circles. @transhistoryweek.bsky.social @lgbthm.bsky.social #PrideInThePort @katieabey.bsky.social @outvertising.bsky.social (and this doesn’t account for the lanyards!)

Had a great time last night at the @lgbthm.bsky.social finale with the double feature. felt inspired and invigorated — and maybe a little agitated, according to my watch! take to the streets! thanks @suesanders03.bsky.social @lynne-nicholls.bsky.social & my partner in crime @smartymarty.bsky.social

My daughter (6), the only girl in the family, who still swears she can’t read or write, installed this on the wall outside the living room. It is meant to say, “If you’re a little sister stay out!!” She is mighty proud of herself.

These books don’t just teach kids about acceptance; they remind adults that we’re still learning, too. 💛

Abuela brings Julian a necklace to complement his dress. The crayons celebrate their friend, now known as Blue. Herbert’s mum sees and embraces him as a fox for the first time. The Pink Shadow child’s dad wears a dress too, even though his shadow is blue.

Their families don’t always get it at first: Abuela is dismayed by Julian’s mermaid dress, Red’s family and friends try to 'fix' him, Herbert’s mum scolds him for failing to 'be a good rabbit', and the Child with the Pink Shadow's dad cringes at the idea of their kid going to school in a dress.

Julian, Red, Herbert, and the Child with the Pink Shadow each feel like something about them isn’t quite right. They hide, they try to fit in, they struggle to meet the expectations of others.
