Uncommon but not unheard of. The 99 avalanche that killed 6 people at Turnagain was 1/2 mile wide with a crown of 6’ and debris up to 20’ deep.

Not unexpected or abnormal. Both these paths frequently go and they often go this big. The forecast last week warned of big events like this.
