wild bastards nearly scratched this itch for me but there's not really an exploration aspect unfortunately

dwarf fortress was an early inspiration for minecraft and i think you can still see a lot of that influence. every item and block has a dozen different uses. almost every part of the game can interact with the others in a way that you only really can learn by exploring the different mechanics.

i think it's mostly because surviving in minecraft is genuinely not difficult. like if you wanted you could sustain off two cows and a piece of farmland. the goal feels more explicitly exploration, both through the world and through the depths of the mechanics

minecraft has a lot more in common with a game like dwarf fortress or rimworld than the survival games that surround it imo. despite the progression systems/hunger mechanics/building mechanics, the purpose of these things strikes me as significantly different
