Westwin Resistance
@westwinresistance.org
We are a coalition of concerned citizens who are fighting against the Westwin Elements refinery and the West Lawton Industrial Park being built on ancestral Kiowa, Comanche, and Apache lands.

This restriction feels unlawful but okay

That story was updated. Someone from westwin must've called to assure them they aren't reporting all their investments which is a choice

There is a projector showing this mayor's kids first initiative graphic on every single wall of this room

Lawtonians, there are current nine candidates for council in this year's municipal election.

Yesterday, there was a fire at the Republic Paper mill in the West Lawton Industrial Park.

What happens when it's combustible metal powder refinery?

What happens when it's a rocket fuel plant?

Last week, Westwin Elements CEO KaLeigh Long took a moment to assure all the women of America that the pay gap and misogyny more broadly are imaginary.

Girlboss. Gaslight. Gatekeep.

They are currently in executive session.

It's pretty likely that some of our coalition members could easily provide City Comms with an OBS boot-camp for a nominal fee.

City of Lawton Officials: "Good paying jobs..."

Westwin Elements: "Our interns..."

And finally, Item 44.

See, Timothy Wilson, who is doing the City Attorney's job right now, is actually the interim City Attorney appointed when City Attorney John Andrew resigned after only 9 months on the job. Prior to Andrews, the City had been without a City Attorney for 7 months.

All we can tell you about Item 43, the first Executive Session agenda item, is it's an accountant alleging a wrongful termination from the City.

R. L. Smith has resigned. An appointee hand-picked by the Mayor will serve for at least a year in his seat.

R. L. Smith held his City Council seat for exactly 186 days, or 6 months and 5 days. About one eighth of what he signed up for last year.

This adds a section numbered 23-6-611 "Regulations for the storage and parking of commercial vehicles within the Downtown District" to the City Codes.

Why they're not amending 23-6-604 "Parking for certain purposes prohibited" or 23-6-605 "Authority to restrict parking time" instead is a mystery.
July 21, 2025 at 9:24 PM
Item 40 for the Lawton City Council tomorrow proposes changes to the "downtown" parking rules.
July 21, 2025 at 9:17 PM
Item 39 on the agenda.

It's amending ordinance 20-1-101 with some tricky language.
July 21, 2025 at 9:03 PM
And we're back.

Item 38. Consider receiving a presentation from Public Service Organization Family Promise and approving a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) Project for the acquisition and rehabilitation of building and property located at 1308 SW D Ave.
July 21, 2025 at 8:53 PM
And that is the end of the consent agenda. Need to take a break before coming back to the Business Items.
July 21, 2025 at 7:06 PM
37. Consider approving appointments to boards and commissions.

There is only one appointment. Doug Stephens by Mayoral Appointment to the FISTA Development Trust Authority.
July 21, 2025 at 7:04 PM
36. Consider approving claims list from June 19, 2025 through July 10, 2025.

Nothing says "Transparency and Trust" like being told the information is "Documented Separately" and "on file at the City Clerk's Office" (must be requested) before the number of attachments being declared as "none", huh.
July 21, 2025 at 7:03 PM
35. Dilapidated houses. The inclusion of the actual invoices is a thing to behold.
July 21, 2025 at 6:59 PM
In the attachments for 34, there's curb extensions on the list of available measures. This City never does curb extensions.
July 21, 2025 at 6:56 PM
Item 34. We are assuming they want stop signs at the intersection because the address they listed would be a few lots into the block, which would be a weird place for a stop sign.
July 21, 2025 at 6:54 PM
32 and 33 are easements.

For the easement at 1904 NW Cache Road, the City is paying $15,000.

For the easement near SE Flower Mound, the City is paying $34,200.
July 21, 2025 at 6:51 PM
31. This is a trick.

The Pecan Valley Petitioners have LEDA on the backfoot. This looks like appeasement but there's no reason here that once Firehawk is established, they won't expand the I-4 zoning right where they already want it.
