Oh... I understand the urge to use/implement the death penalty. I'm not a crusader. I just can never square with taking more life to make something right, especially when courts are so often wrong.

I like your take too. I'm just not sure the hatred of men toward the creature that formed its psyche was enough to make it the compassionate soul that ended the movie. Fear of the other was a huge part of the original book and largely missing here.
