The angriest, most visceral record I heard all year. Highschool Wes would have made this record his entire personality. Crunchy distorted guitars, shitty cymbals, driving basslines, the works. Straightforward punk / grunge / whatever you wanna call it. Bump and scream.

Is this the BEST rap record of the year? Ehhhhhhh. Is this the best victory lap I've ever seen an artist take on wax? No doubt. Mr "takes too long drop" came through with a short & sweet 12 tracks that put on smaller west coast artists & had everyone posting SSJ Mustard gifs

God I love this record. If I was better at Japanese I wouldn't be able to sing a long to some of these songs because they make me choke up. Tell Me Why is probably the most approachable song to those uninitiated into j-pop's flagrant genre-hopping (and style theft)

Yet another record with crazy aspirational highs & super vulnerable lows. I hate clubbing and coke and this record made me want to go out and do both. I didnt, because I know myself, but that’s the power of music baby. Just thinking about this record makes me wanna shake my ass

Tyler’s production is second-to-none in my opinion. I dont care if he uses a couple of the same synths from 10 years ago, his changes & his progressions are always evolving. The most dynamic and cinematic record of the year, and he’s got bars. And vulnerability.

I feel like most years since Vince came on the scene this would be a contender for rap AOTY. West Coast came through too strong this year though. His beat selection and wit are unparalleled. Still love his flow and his storytelling. Best hooks in the game.

Fuck this record is so good. Not sure what I can add that hasn’t already been said. I love Doechii and I’m rooting for her big time. Super vulnerable record, she also has bars for days. A rapper’s rapper and great emotional storyteller.

When rap fans talk about how “conscious” or “woke” artists like Kendrick or Cole are I just wanna smack them with a Vylan lyric sheet. Spits at the intersection between the personal & the political. Raps & sings over jungle, reggae, rock, & hiphop beats. Underrated.

Pretty straightforward Japanese indie rock / alternative rock. Very good though. The album has a very good flow from front to back, easy to listen to on repeat. Skeletonize is the standout, for me.

The soundtrack to a fake video game was one of the best records I listened to this year. Some people I played this for this year thought it was an actual soundtrack to a late 90s - early 00s video game that they missed. Jazzy and bitty and frenetic as hell. Very good.

Actually, 28 of the best 30 records I listened to this year and 2 records that are on here out of spite. I hate Glass Beach so much I put them on underneath that awful Green Day record just to prove a point.
