Short story writer. Retired academic cardiologist. I teach at Writers Studio. I live in San Francisco and west Sonoma County with my wife Bobbi and Kerry Blue terrier Trey. Socialist, sentimentalist, grew up in Canada near Toronto but American now too.
The present tense gives a sense of immediacy and excitement. Who knows how it will turn out. The past tene is more stable. Use the one that fits best. Get good at writing with both. And sometime for fun, write a paragraph in the future tense. Show the narrator's dreams and aspirations.
