Boys and girls, today's word is "HAGIOGRAPHY".

My, that's a big word...can you say "HAGIOGRAPHY"?

I KNEW you could...

I didn't expect to see a #Rush/#Peart quote on a state government website; this is Kentucky's Secretary of State...

So, after YEARS of "we're working on a healthcare plan", "we'll have something better than Obamacare", the Trump/Republican healthcare plan appears to be...ripping insurance coverage from millions and making everyone fend for themselves.

Folks, Republicans don't care about you. #wewarnedyou

I enjoy the sheer unpredictability of Ollie's; every visit is a journey of discovery.

This week? Giant coffee mugs.
Next week? Bluetooth cooking thermometers.
Last month? Misspelled signs...

Homemade sourdough, fresh from the oven.

That is all.

I don't know who to credit for this, but this earned a spit take from my inner historian. #history

"Gosh, Grampa, is the whole White House having an aneurysm over Zohran #Mamdani?"

"Sure looks that way, Billy...now go fetch your Grampa another glass of schadenfreude..."

Tonight's #entomology reading - "Managing Alternative Pollinators: A Handbook for Beekeepers, Growers, and Conservationists". At first glance, there's LOTS of good info here.

Buy a print copy or download the PDF version at no cost from the link below. #bees #insects

So, I'm sitting in southern Kentucky...but because I'm using a cell phone and AT&T apparently backhauls my traffic to their Columbus OH POP, Bluesky wants to enforce Ohio's age verification law. This is what happens when politicians think they understand technology. #networking

We first used this "treat chute" for social distanced COVID #trick-or-treat in 2021. Now we hear kids say...

"This is a cool house - they made a vending machine..."

"That just sounds so satisfying (when the candy hits their bag)..."

"This is the BEST house..."

Today's #backyardnature is a prey/predator combination from the same plant - a group of oleander aphids (Aphis nerii) and a dusty lacewing (family Coniopterygidae) that feeds on aphids and other plant pests. #entomology

Take a look at the artwork posted by the US Department of Labor since (roughly) Labor Day.

There's something odd here...but I can't qwhite put my finger on it.

Bless the Barista and his foam.
Bless the lattes and chai teas of him.
May his Ventis cleanse the world.

Oh, and may he leave a little room for cream.

These #KKK losers visited several #Kentucky cities two nights ago, spreading their filth under cover of darkness. Here's hoping that these racists are identified and publicly shamed for their actions. #racism

Today's episode of #backyardnature - "Take a Closer Look!"

At first glance, there's nothing special going on with this plant...but a closer look reveals a red-eyed leafhopper (genus Gyponana, I believe) doing a fine job of hiding in plain sight. #entomology

I'd say that the smartest engineers don't pay for hardcopy of documents available free in digital formats.

I'm a veteran, and I served alongside folks who earned the Medal of Honor and Distinguished Service Cross; I've known former POWs who endured torture, and my father was a career Army mustang (WW2/Korea/Vietnam).

My service was nothing special - but I see them in this cartoon.

Here's a whitefringed weevil (Naupactus leucoloma). Native to southern South America, they're an adventive species in the US, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Trivia: adults cannot fly, because their forewings are fused. #backyardnature #entomology

To get an idea of just how many nuts the US imports, look at this label from a bag of mixed nuts - it takes imports from TWENTY-TWO nations to fill the bag.
