All this generates a classic artifact of Italian summers: the traffic jam calendar.
I'm not saying it's impossible, but to charge all the cars on the road in a "black dot" saturday (500+ mile journeys...) we'll need literally gigawatts of power along the two highways and A LOT of space.

Kinda :) We have a confluence of
1) Millions of southerners who took a job in the North going down to visit relatives
2) Yet more northerners driving their families to the beach
3) Lots of businesses closing for the same weeks (slowly changing)
4) 1 main road for each side of the mountains
