#artvsartist posts for the years 2020, '21, and '22. Each year I get happier and more confident, but also when I lay my art out like this I can see my "trademarks" a bit more easily.

I also managed to finish these two studies at long last! I really cannot overstate how much I needed a studio day today. Lovely art.

Weedy Sea Dragon, colour pencil on paper, 2025.
More than 2 months working on it and done just in time for the solstice! Some bright colours while snow falls outside, just what everyone needs.

The slow evolution of this weedy sea dragon has renewed my dedication to slow art. It's taken months of careful colour layering to get to where I've gotten, and I've learned so much along the way!

"Blood Brain Games & Bone", collaged materials, 2025.
My... I want to say this is my second werewolf collage but I think I have made more than 2. But! So far my favourite of my recent collages.

I think I should go through and start titling these collages. In the meanwhile, here's another arrangement of old packaging, cutouts from magazines, and bits of handmade paper I had lying around!

Another collage! I want to ask my local library branch if they have old magazines they're discarding so I can use them for collages, but I think I ought to try and work with what I have for now. Sometimes the limitations make my mind work better. This one is fairy tale and magic themed.

A collage to break the ice and ease me back into making art? You bet!
I see this as a collaborative piece, I couldn't have done it without my friend Stephanie sending me most of the little stamps on this page. All else was packaging I didn't want to throw out and vintage Canadian post stamps.

And FINISHED! I really took my time layering colour and sealing, but I think that was for the best. The toe beans are mostly invisible now that the wings are glued on, but the whimsy is still present in my heart.

Working away at this thing and a few other projects. I also recently began the planning stages for a dating sim/visual novel, despite my promise to myself that I'd more forward in developing other game ideas I have currently. Anyway, what's another project on the pile? I like the work!

Most excitingly, I managed to dig up more of my old photos (taken using The Beast, that clunky old camera)!
Finding these really just makes me want to get a new camera immediately.

I really dug deep in my art archive for this bunch... This was one of, I think, 3 or 4 copper plate engravings I did while I was in art school. The assignment was to engrave a scene from a noir film, I've no idea where I dug this one up from but it was pretty fun.

This redesign of my other D&D character 13 Sword of the King Pierces the Night is from... 2022? I had brought my sketchbook with me to this restaurant and idly decided to workshop him.

Ink on paper to digital remaster, going for a giallo film vibe. Arguably something got lost in translation here, but I don't necessarily think one is better than the other. I think I just really liked making something where I used my really beat-up, nearly dry brush pens.

This is maybe among my favourite photos I have ever taken, as a total amateur working with a very old digital camera I fondly nicknamed The Beast due to it being large and clunky.

Me in Ancient Greece waiting for the Uber and he says he's in a bronze plated Macedonian Tau Lambda but I don't know the breeds of chariot: what fuckign colour is it

And here are some wolf studies from... I think mid-September? I plan to finish some of these up soon enough.

Continuing work on this one. Every layer of colour makes it more stunning, and I am very pleased with how the limited palette is looking

Forgot to post this one, my favourite on this whole page!
September 15, 2025 at 6:27 PM
Of all of the bath studies, I think these two will be among my favourites. I am deliberately limiting my palette here as a challenge to myself.

A sidenote: my library is full of books with incredible photos like the ones that inspired this whole project and I am excited to go back this week!

Some closeups for you all to peruse
I am kind of digging the imperfections I left in, they weren't deliberate but they do look good after all

Coloured pencil studies inspired by photos in Smith and Yamamoto's "The Japanese Bath". Liberties were taken, and I am chipping away at the rust on my "background and settings" drawing skills.

Nearly done! I want to give him a few more coats of paint before I seal and glue on his paws/wings. Gave him bright yellow toe beans cause why not

Made 3 new necklaces, this time for my friend's dogs!
I've got one final necklace to make for a different friend before I put em in the mail.
