Analyze how we live, work, and invest in cities. Seem to have developed some (rental) housing expertise. Also like to talk about offices and CRE.

Find me on LinkedIn for my job title and formal posts. This site is for my own Blue Sky thinking.
What’s the story behind this laneway house shape? A regulatory requirement or just preference?

Housing researchers, does anyone have a map showing CMHC zones on the Vancouver downtown peninsula? I need to confirm a location and the website/portal doesn't seem to be working (not letting me select zones). @jensvb.bsky.social @michaelwiebe.bsky.social @amoralorealis.bsky.social

Lots of chatter about Gregor Robertson's time at the city of Vancouver. Here's some data. The most housing starts ever in the city of Vancouver happened in 2016, toward the end of his time as mayor. The worst year was when he took office (also the financial crisis).

Not a pet, but I went for a lunch time run and found this guy/gal fishing in an urban lake.

… ideas for Canada instead of counter tariffs.

1. Use export taxes instead. Potash. Electricity. Canadian wheat.
2, Raid talent. And fund some start up research labs.

3. Negotiate slowly. Goal of changing the minds of Americans other than Trump.

Exhibit A on why humans need to work with AI and not fully trust it. This Grok taxed islands inhabited only by penguins.

Make America Wealthy Again by taxing penguins.

I’m not a leader or a bar tender, but I invented the Amistad.

Involves Mezcal, tequila, maple syrup, and BC blueberries. And a lime (lime from fridge, no idea of origins). Plus smoky cocktail rimmer made locally and purchased at farmer’s market.

The amistad (friendship).

Enmascarado Mezcal - shot
Juice of Half a large lime
Canadian maple syrup (half shot)
Frozen blueberries from the Fraser Valley juiced with warm water.
Rim with Bowen Island herb salts’ cocktail rimmer.

Anyone want to help me deconstruct Toronto from this mural?

What’s going on?

New Payroll data out this morning. BC has the highest job vacancy rate and the lowest number of unemployed workers per job. Ontario near the other end of the spectrum.

Filtering happens. The most typical renter of new stock moves from within the local area. Many vacate older less-expensive apartments thereby releasing more affordable options.
