January 6, 2001. VP Al Gore presided over election certification. SCOTUS gave Florida to GW Bush, so Gore was in MVP’s position. My mom joined 12 members of CBC in objecting to counting FL for Bush. All objections were ruled out of order and the certification process continued.

NBER STUDY: outcomes in states with & w/o affirmative action bans showed the graduation rate for Latinas was 4% lower in states w/bans, while earnings were 4.2% lower for Black women and 8.1% for Hispanic women. Black and Hispanic women earned 8.1% and 7% less than White women.
