An estimated 700,000 Wisconsinites, including hundreds of people throughout the 73rd, are likely to go hungry in November without help. It's not alarmist to say that we're just at the beginning of what is likely to be a very difficult stretch for people who struggle to meet their needs. I talked to a director at one of our local food pantries yesterday who said that it's time for our communities to step up. I know how caring our communities are, but now we need to do a little more. Start by sharing this information with others, and continue to donate time and/or money if you can. And don't forget to take 5 minutes a day to call your elected officials. The poll was shared with City & State on the condition that we not name the entity that commissioned it. It was conducted by public opinion researcher Nancy Zdunkewicz's firm Z to A Research, which specializes in text and online polling. It included 371 registered Democrats who are likely to vote in the 2026 midterms and was taken between Sept. 15 and 20. It has a margin of error of 5 points. It was not intended to be public.

The administration itself acknowledge that some CDC workers had been mistakenly terminated due to coding errors, as reported earlier by ABC News. I was also told that RIF'd editors of the CDC's flagship scientific journal, Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report have all been recalled, as well as leaders and staffers in several other centers and divisions. Recalled CDC staffers include scientists and other workers in the Global Health Center, as well as others who work on suicide and other injury prevention. This is a developing story.

One of my favorite things about this house is the way you can take pictures of this windowsill in the mirror at night. A frame for the garden, a clock for the bright months.
