Homely but delicious: Banoffee Pie
An espresso whipped cream-topped pie in particularly flattering light. By the time you read this it will already be gone. Banoffee Pie - King Arthur Flour cookbook Ingredients One 9-inch single piecrust, blind-baked ⅔ to 1⅞ cups (7 to 14 ounces) prepared dulce de leche* 3 medium bananas (about 1¼ pounds before peeling) 1 cup (8 ounces) heavy cream 2 tablespoons sugar (superfine preferred) ½ teaspoon espresso powder or instant coffee Method Spread the dulce de leche over the bottom of the baked, cooled crust. The greater amount, which the original recipe calls for, will give you a very sweet dessert; the lesser amount (or something in between) may be more suitable to your taste. Just eyeball it while you're spooning in the dulce or caramel and quit when you think the layer is thick enough. Peel the bananas and halve them lengthwise. Lay them atop the filling, starting in the center and working outward, cutting the bananas to fit as necessary. If you're really clever, you can pick the banana that's curved about the same as your pie plate to form the outermost layer. Put the cream, sugar, and espresso powder in a large bowl and whip it until it's thick. Spoon it atop the bananas. Serve immediately, or refrigerate until you're ready to serve.

Decided that I am bringing Devil’s Chutney to the potluck
KUMQUAT MARMALADE• Wash kumquats, slice crosswise into little wheels, discarding all seeds. Measure i cup sugar (white cane) to every cup fruit and cook slowly over low fire until mixture reaches the thickness of marmalade. Try not to overcook as mixture becomes too thick, but if this occurs simply add a little water and cook again until right consistency. Do not add water in the beginning as fruit gives off plenty of juice. Stir often so sugar will not stick to pot and scorch. A bay leaf or two may be added. However, I did not use it. Any kind of clean jar may be used as vacuum sealing is not necessary. Good luck, you really can't mess it up. The only work involved is cutting up the little devils! Mrs. Ruth Hoefeld Bay St. Louis, Miss. DEVIL'S CHUTNEY 1 onion 1/2 red pepper (remove seeds) (hot pepper) small slice (1/2 inch) fresh ginger or 1/4 tsp. ground ginger salt to taste 2 cloves garlic Grind all ingredients in your blender except the onion. Add the onion, a little white sugar and the juice from one lemon. Note: Wonderful with cold cuts, sandwiches or served with rice. Very hot. Mrs. William (Joan) Craig ROSE LEAF SPOON SWEETS 1/2 lb. cleaned rose petals 3 lb. sugar 3 c. water 1 oz. lemon juice To prepare petals: Remove and separate rose petals from calyx, laking care to remove all stamen. Using kitchen shears, cut off white base of petals. Wash thoroughly in a large bowl, taking care not to bruise. Drain. Into large saucepan containing 3 cups water, drop petals and boil for 2 minutes. Add sugar, gradually stirring (with wooden spoon) only until sugar is dissolved. Boil over high heat for approximately 10 min-utes, or until syrup is ready. Add lemon juice and continue boiling for 1 minute. To test syrup: Dip spoon into syrup. Allow to drip onto plate. Il the last drop remains on spoon and will not drip, the spoon sweet is ready.

drawing of what I call a noisemaker but I am not sure that’s correct - it’s the thing that you blow into to unfurl a colorful paper tube, making a sad duck call in the process. this was an exercise/collaboration that I didn’t like at all at the time (2021) but I like it now.
