Even when I'm one of the only ones in a room wearing a mask, I think of a dear friend. At an event last year, he had thanked us for wearing masks to protect people like him. He passed this year. I picture him, I think of his words, and I put on my mask.

We've said no to things and had cruel words thrown at us. We've said yes to things and had cruel words thrown at us. We can't win, but we can make our own decisions. We can try to keep ourselves healthy as best as we can. The cruelty? Our nos are mainly for health, but they also protect our peace.

Give up what? My mask that shouldn't be bothering anyone? My want to keep myself not sick? My want of not chancing long COVID? All for just some food and to appease others?

No, I'm not okay with that. Take your risks and I'll choose my own, as well.
