One of the loveliest things I gained from starting to learn Welsh is the pronunciation. Went from ‘where’s your frikking vowels?!’ to ‘ah, here they are’.
Still can’t say that much but try I do. Welsh is like Polish in saying all the letters and not having 15 different ways to say one letter, either

In fact Welsh contains more vowels than English. And far from being unpronounceable, it’s actually completely phonetic.
(It just happens to be written in a different alphabet.)

The reason is because Welsh is written in a different alphabet.
To Welsh speaking eyes, it’s completely phonetic.

As for immigrants, fair enough, but there was a Patagonian lady on Welsh radio recently who was first language Spanish and also fluent in Welsh, but spoke very little English. So it does happen.

More than you’d think. Especially in rural, or ageing populations.

Whilst most Welsh speaking adults can get by in English, there are plenty for whom it is very much their 2nd language, and who are far more comfortable in their native Cymraeg.

In Welsh, W is a vowel.
It’s a double U

In Welsh, I constantly howl,
W remains a vowel.
It’s not ‘Wuh’ as it is to you.
In Welsh, it’s a double-U

That’s a great observation.
Cyrillic is one of my favourite comparisons for Welsh.
Because Cyrillic uses a unique script everyone just accepts that it’s a different alphabet.
But because Welsh uses the Latin script, people think it’s just the English alphabet being used weirdly.

It’s not!!!
