1. Some years back I was taking a cab in Chicago and the taxi driver, discovering I was a writer, complained that all his young son wanted to read was comics. I made the point to him that reading comics was reading, and that his kid was taking pleasure in reading and at his age, that's important.

Yes! Before owning a bookstore I was a library kid. I was a kid with a voracious reading habit. I still love visiting my local library, and it’s a great way to find new authors and try them. Libraries are wonderful national treasures!
Getting a library card is punk as fuck and free!

Yes please
If you want to read a new book coming out but don't want to buy it, a great thing you can do is ask your local library to order it. The more requests they get, the more likely they are to acquire it and then lots of people will get to read it who othewise wouldn't.
