I’m surprised by your take on the Chris Achilleos portrait of Tom Baker. I’ve always interpreted this as showing the Doctor being tormented by some energy stuff surrounding his head. It doesn’t look at all, to me, like he’s grinning!

I wish I’d known that Peter Elson had painted so many iconic book covers when my terrible book was published. I always said that the cover was the best thing about it!

Obvious examples being Peter Davison as the Campion Doctor, Patrick Troughton’s Box of Delights Doctor, David Tennant’s Casanova Doctor and Sylvester McCoy’s Radagast Doctor.

I watch anything with an actor who has played the Doctor and judge it by how much of a stretch it is to say ‘yes, this is still the Doctor.’
